Confused

I responded to a post, I was sent a warning. They also deleted some of my other posts. You can't tell someone he has a nice tank if you have less than 50 posts or you're post padding

When you start slamming them out all in one day, yes it's padding.

So, what is someone suppose to post in my case?

I am "learning" about the hobby as we work on our 500gal tank. I am not knowledged enough to give advise to others. And, I don't have questions I need answers to that I can't find on the web somewhere.

What is a person in my case suppose to post? I understand not wanting RC to be a "store" for selling, but trading or giving away? What does that hurt anyone?

Debi, your advise in my situation is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

All we want is active participation. Selling/trading is a perk for that. Even when you hit that number we don't let people set up shop and sell/trade only. Eventually we ask people to sell elsewhere if we notice.

As I said in the other post slamming out posts all in one day is hardly that. Not a lot of thought is put into those posts.

For you, you could share your build pictures, or tank pictures. This forum has a lot of OT chatter, participate there. In one year there must have been something in here worth commenting on. 2 posts a week would have put you well over 50.

RC, did you check before you threw out that comment? Because I didn't slam them out in one day. And I'm offended that you would say that. Do some research before you open your mouth next time.

Responding to a moderator in this fashion isn't conducive to long term membership on here. Tone it down a notch. ;)

In your case you were warned about our 50/90, afterwards it was either reported or noticed you had a large number of very short posts with no real meaningful content to them following that warning. One or two "nice tank" type comments aren't likely to garner much more than a passing glance, when it becomes a noticeable trend, don't be surprised if they're removed.

Ok back to the original question. I don't understand the logic of erasing my pm to another member about trading. He posted sell/trade for a few items. If I would have responded ill buy your coral that would be ok. I respond want to trade and themessage gets deleted. So you rc mod's are worried that store owners are going to respond to a members post and trade for coral. Sorry but that logic makes no sense. The have suppliers that SELL them coral. It's not like an lfs can trade coral for rent. So you know outside of forums businesses buy and sell. Back in the day owners might have used a barter system, but I'm pretty sure that was before the internet, and reef tanks.

I apologize if I overreacted a little bit. Are there any rules on how mods respond to members, because I felt he was a bit harsh. Implying I SLAMMED out 50 meaningless posts in one day when I slammed out 5-6 over a few months I didn't think that was a big deal

There is no system that does what you're claiming. Despite some wild rumors that get tossed around occasionally, nobody can even access somebody else's PMs (not even staff).

I'm not sure what message you think or did see, but I can say there is no system that does what you're relaying.

Debi is a she :). I also do not see where she implied anything about you specifically. She responded to your comment "You can't tell someone he has a nice tank if you have less than 50 posts or you're post padding" with "When you start slamming them out all in one day, yes it's padding." using "you" in the general sense.

Specifically about your case though, most of your posts that were removed were posted over a couple days. :)

Let me be very clear. We did not delete a Private Message. We have no capabilities to do so.
More than likely, you responded to a thread and that post was deleted. You were then sent a PM warning to explain why it was deleted.

I'm just trying to get your terminology straight so there is no confusion or accusations of us somehow invading someone Private Messages.

This is really much ado about nothing. It's a cake walk to post 50 meaningful posts. Not wait until you want to sell/trade and then pump out a bunch of posts. 1 day, 2 days, even 3 days. My previous post was generalizing as well as this one.

Debi is in my sig. ;)

Thanks for the info. I know over two years I could have posted more than I did (2x/week according to your calculation), but life goes on, and RC, to me as it is to many is a pastime as we are busy with work, family/friends, having babies :), ect. as I'm sure you fall within one of those categories too. Since we're doing the math, I couldn't imagine posting 9x a day with such busy lives as we all lead to reach tens of thousands of postings under my belt, kudos to you ;).

I appreciate all that RC big brothers do to keep RC a great place, and I thank you for that.

It is what it is. I'll eventually get to 50 one way or another. Change takes an adjustment period, and I'm through that period. This is a dead horse to me. Time to try and post some pics in my album, I have one pic so far of our tank in the beginning stage, stay tuned for more, hopefully.

You might even have fun in here. Most these guys are ok.
