Connection refused- unable to connect

Dear Neptune Guru's,

I keep getting this message in Telnet

Trying 99.188.74.***...
-telnet: connect to address 99.188.74.***: Connection refused
-telnet: Unable to connect to remote host

I have the DynDNS updater connected with a green light. When trying to connect on an outside network it fails to connect instantly. Both in Telnet and Chrome/Firefox.

Using U-Verse, went through the entire new users guide and I cant find anything on this.

Selected a 'non standard' port, with a static IP.. logged my IP into DynDNS account and everything looks correct.

Does the DynDNS updater need to remain on? Does it have to be logged on inside the IP its updating( Running it from work right now)?

Please let me know if I left anything out.

If you are attempting to connect outside of network, do you have port forwarding setup. Telnet traffic uses port 23. If you are using dyndns, you can just use that address rather than your actual IP address.

Thanks for the reply swearint -

I am attempting to connect from an outside network. I got the port forwarding set up and have all the information in DYNDNS. So while in my web browser I put in http://myapexaccount.dyndns.tv:### and the browser instantly says cannot connect to web page. Ive tried it with Chrome and Firefox.

So you cannot connect via telnet or a web browser? Have you ever been able to connect outside network using either?

Todd

If you want to connect from the internet via telnet (assuming you have port 23 open and forwarded to your Apex's IP address) it's

telnet myDynDNsname.com

If you use http://myDynDNSname.com then you'll be directed to port 80 or whatever port you defined and go to the web pages.

of course, substitute your Dyndns name in the examples above. Remember, for telnet access you need to forward port 23 to the apex, for http access it's port 80 or whatever port you've associated with the apex.
