I am considering purchasing a Lobophyllia purple one of these. I have a 29g w/ 175w 14k bulb only other coral in there is a big rock of frilly shrooms.

Your tank setup sounds fine. You will want to begin dosing for calcium and alkalinity if you aren't already doing so.

Purple sounds sweet :thumbsup:

Going to need some sort of test kit huh? or think switching salts to Reef Crystals would be sufficient? i do weekly wc's on tank as only have fuge on it.....

No matter what salt you are using, you will need test kits. Reef Crystals will provide more than Instant Ocean, which is what I'm guessing you use now. This will be especially true if you are doing weekly water changes. But, you will still want to monitor your tank parameters. IMO, you really don't have to check your water religously. A quick check up every few weeks would be fine or if something looks out of the ordinary. Some things you will want to check are:

-Nitrate
-pH
-Salinity
-Calcium
-Alkalinity
-Temperature (especially since it is summer and small tanks can heat up quickly)
