Contemplating A 92G Corner

I realize the corner reef aquariums can be a real challenge as far as lighting and sump configuring, not to mention the cost or difficulty of making a nice stand and canopy... but I have this "perfect corner" that measures 37.5" wide per side so it would be a nice spot to fit a 92 gallon reef ready tank :D

I had been eyeballing a really nice set up that I just missed out on through CL that included a beautiful furniture grade custom stand and canopy... someone scored big time! I was a bit too slow to seal the deal and lost it... Oh we'll, guess it just wasn't meant to be.

So I figured I would post up this thread for a few different reasons...

First of all I may be still be interested in purchasing something similar if one of you have available for sale?

Second, I would love some input from others who have successfully kept (or are currently keeping) a corner reef aquarium. Things that worked nicely, things you would change, ect. especially suggestions regarding ideal up-to-date lighting, filtration, and nice quality furniture designs.

Third, I would love to see photos of other members corner tanks (any size) for inspiration!

Thanks in advance - Dave

I used to have the same tank a while back and I loved it. So did everyone that come over and saw it as it's different that what you usually see. With so many lighting options available now especially with LEDs the hassle of lighting a corner table is no longer a chore. I say you go for it!

Just wondering, would this be a curved front or a triangle shaped tank?

I think it would be cool and different then the normal, could get some really cool aquascaping going on. You may have a little more difficulty with a flow pattern but lighting with LEDs has become easy. I say go for it too!

Going with the Kessil 360w series you'd be set for lighting. As for filtration a sweet skimmer and reactors would make up for the missing sump space.

Thanks for the replies!

@ Jet Black... Most likely a bow front style with curved glass.

I found a nice set up here on RC owned by a fellow member out of Florida that is very much like what I am hoping to build... His thread is titled "Sirjohn's 92 Gallon Corner" let me see if I can paste a working link -

@ Borchers and muttley, thanks for the lighting suggestion. I've looked them up since reading your posts and they do look very nice!
Can anyone confirm the exact differences between the $400 360W and the $300 350W? Best I can tell the newer 360 is compatible to be used in conjunction with certain popular controllers and the older 350 is not. Is that the only difference?

Well mainly for the LED's are the newer top bin LED's.. More light output... Check out this link on the WE's.. Check out this video too... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjVWKsFARRs

By the way, Pet Extreme in Lodi has had their 92 bowfront up for the last 7-8 years... No issues... However, its mostly softies and lps... :)

360's are made with UV and can now cover the full spectrum of lighting. Look at Neptunes display tank. Lit by the new 360's

lighting is no problem.

maintenance is the contender in my mind. accesablility and maneuvering is hard enough in a normal tank, my peninsula was kind of a pain to figure out a way that i can reach, maneuver, and fit everything i wanted (and now i want a bit more). i would consider all your plumbing and working area into the idea, and go from there.

i have seen a couple really well thought out sumps that are like a portion of a spiral staircase underneath a corner tank that work and look phenomenal with the allowance for clearance for a decent skimmer, lights, frag area, and a relatively low head loss with the drain and return being so close to one another....

I have one & I don't think I'll ever not have a corner tank. they'll just have to be larger than 92g. there's a great thread here on RC for corner tank owners, kinda like a corner club where you can get all your questions answered. I can't search on my phone, but a simple corner tank search and you'll find the thread. either way, I'll find it & post it tomorrow from my computer. they aren't as complicated as you think, but they do lack space below & require some ingenuity. best of luck to you & hope you get it, cuz they are AWESOME!
