Controllers with wireless net capability ?

Herbie

Yep,that one
Hey,
Just wondering if any controllers utilize wireless NET capability ? Maybe I just havent looked hard enough, but I cant see where Digital Aquatics or Neptune offer wireless capabilty. I see they have it for the Vortech pumps, but I havent seen where they use a wireless module to conect to a wireless router ???
I would like to use NET capabilty, but running an ethernet wire is not going to work for me very easily.

Is the Full Apex, or ReefKeeper Elite wireless NET capable ?

Thanks,
Herbie

You can use a gaming adapter to tie in I know the Apex and I am pretty sure the ReefKeeper. But neither offer wireless adapters through their own companies. Profilux does offer wireless, but it tacks on about $300 IIRC....that was from a couple years ago when I looked in to it. ReefAngel offers a WiFi attachment to theirs at $110.

Hmmm,
I have one from my kids "old" xbox 360. Wonder if that will work ? Do I need a seperate module for it to work?

Thanks for the response.
Herbie

I assume you would attach it by Ethernet to the base module on the APex, I would ask them or their forum though. I have never really looked into how it is done, only seen it mentioned several times. I am not sure on the ReefKeeper, maybe it would attach to the NET module?

It boggles my mind why some one would design and sell an item like this in this day and age that requires a hard wire connection. I have one cable connection for my router and it's not even in the same room where my tank is. Thanks for the heads up on the gaming adapter.

Then you have people like me...stuck in yesterday :)

I so much prefer hard wired. Less potential for stupid computer problems. But I am not sure why none of them offer it as a cheap add on though.

You can add a "net" module to a Digital Aquatics Reefkeeper but it is not wireless. You can use a game adapter to go wireless. There is a lot of information on the DA support forum, but setup (especially for outside your home network) can be a challenge. The net module does not provide full control...you still need the head unit to change some settings.

Reef angel. Complete control wirelessly. iPhone/droid app. And the controller is open source. Meaning as long as there are people willing to write code for it, it can and will do whatever you want it to. I'm soon ditching my rkl for the RA. Plus getting a cheap tablet to use as a dedicated screen. How awesome is that?! 7" screen for a controller!!!

Yea, I am starting to like what I see in the Reef Angel.
I may move my RKL to the frag tank, and try the Reef Angel wireless on the 60 cube display tank.
Looks like you can only buy direct from RA ? I am researching how good the support is? I am looking for something is very user friendly because I am not savy with code/html etc. It needs to be easy !

Thanks for the help guys !

Thats a nice idea with the tablet as a screen. Cant I also use my laptop just as easy if its wireless ?

Thanks,
Herbie
