controlling 6100 with 7095

I am thinking of adding 2x6100 + 7095 onto a 90g tank, mainly SPS and no sandbed. I am worried that it might be too strong. Is it possible/safe to run the 6100 at 50%-75% constantly? If so, how do I achive this with the controller? Thx.

It is possible but honestly I think 2 6000 is a better place to start. You would just set the two speeds on the controller.

My biggest dilema is future upgrade when I will need the 6100 power for the bigger tank. 6000 might be good now, but not for the future, that's why I'm considering the 6100s.

You know that the only difference is the transformer right? If you buy 6000's you just need to replace the 7210.202 transformer with the 7410.602 and they become 6100's.

No, I didn't know that. Is that hard to do? Does it involve opening up the pump and sodering and all that good stuff?

If the transformer is the only difference, how about buying the 6100 and removing the transformer to make it a 6000, is that possible? This way I can use it as a 6000 now and 6100 down the road and wouldn't have to buy anything more later.

Its a simple swap. And to be honest the price difference bet the 6000s and the 6100s is roughly the cost of a transfomer. If you upgrade to the 6100s, you end up w/ 6100s with a spare 6000s transformer for the price of 6100s, you get my drift . Trust me, try the 6000s first and see if thats enough flow for you. Im running the 6000s right now on my 120g sps dominant tank, and it more than enough flow. I have the 6100s transformer in hand when I need more flow as my tank matures, but really I don't see myself using it anytime soon.

hmmm? Are you saying that the 6000 also has it own remove-able transformer? So by removing the 6100 transformer alone (off the 6100), this doesn't turn it into a 6000 (still requires a 6000 transformer?) Right???

You got it, they both got their own transformers

6100-$333 (with its own 6100 transformer)

6000-$260 (with its own 6000 transformer)
6100 transformer (by itself)- $72

Like Roger said, the 6100 and 6000 are the same, except for the transformers (bigger transformer for the 6100 of course), and you just unplug and swap
