Controlling Mangrove Growth

I would like to know the general opinnion of those using mangroves as far as cropping them. My mangroves have grown almost to the ceiling and I need to stund their growth in height while still allowing them to thicken (grow out but not up). I have heard that snipping off the top bud can lead to a total lose of the entire plant and I definately don't want that. Anyone have any experience with this?

In her "Mangroves" article in the most recent issue of Aquarium Fish Magazine, Julian Sprung said that the method of removing the top bud will work.

Yeah... I just read a small booklet by him (Julian) that suggested removing the unopened leaf bud right at its base above a pair of leaves. Thanks for your reply!
