Converting Eheim Pro 3 2180 to MARINE?

Greetings Everyone!
I'm coverting my 225 gal fresh to 225 reef and I have a 10 month old Eheim Pro 3 2180 that I really like. It has a built in heater so it is FRESH water only. I've called Eheim and they said that there is NO WAY of converting that to marine, and there is no way of removing the heater, which according to Eheim, the heater will "rust" in salt water.
I know there are many many many creative people here so, has anyone tried to run the 2180 with marine and what happened or anyone figured out a way of converting it?

Gee, I think I must be crazy trying to find a way to salvage this really nice canister for my reef....

If the heater isn't easily removeable (i.e. modular) and eheim has advised against it I wouldn't go for it.

It's possible that the heater may not be the only thing that will rust.
