At ly lfs they sell regular ghost shrimps I'm wondering if they can be converted pike guppies and mollies? I'd like to add them in as a cuc and food for my coral beauty if she ever gets frisky and goes hunting...

No they can't from my experience...

When I got my second G. ternatensis (orange spot mantis) it refused to eat anything (sadly it died and starved itself after a week :( )

I tried to feed it ghost shrimp, and the shrimp would die in about 10 minutes after introduction to the tank (since the mantis was unwilling to eat it never got them).

They sell feeder shrimp salt water too on LA and R2G - They grow very fast though if they dont get eaten but they make great scavengers. I like them better than hermits for sure because they dont kill snails. I have some in my sumps and in my main tanks that they dont get eaten.

do you mean mysis?

There must be both fresh and salt water varieties. I mean they look identical. I have seen them hang out in the outlet area where land water dumps into the ocean.

I have about 20 in my 90g. About 10 made it to the sump and the others stay in the display. They do grow quick but are cool to have around. No problems that I know of.

Mine were netted around a pier piling in a Southeast harbor.

We call them Grass Shrimp.

There are both freshwater and saltwater ghost shrimp. Unless you live in Florida where they are farm raised the saltwater shrimp are expensive due to shipping costs. I used to use Livebrineshrimp.com to buy them in bulk and store them in a 20 gallon designated tank for my dwarf zebra lionfish that refuses to eat anything dead. I subsequently started buying freshwater ghost shrimp from a local fish store
that I gut feed (ie., given high quality food) and have saved a lot of money without any noticeable change in Vlad the Inhaler's health. He's been going strong for over two years on his modified diet.
