Hi, wondering if anyone could give me their experience with convict tangs? They seem to be hardy and that may be one tang I may add to my tank. All opinions for or against would be appreciated..Cheers
I think these fish are way underrated, and not too many people keep them. After seeing them EVERYWHERE in Hawaii they really grew on me. I don't currently have one but am planning on getting one when my next tank is setup.
Thanks for reply and input!!1 Beginning to woner if anyone was going to comment. I agree that these fish are underated and feel they would be good for my setup. Have a 125 set up for about 2 months but with live rock from existing systems so cycled pretty well right away. Just trying to stay away from the standard tangs and through some research I think these fish are quite hardy once acclimated. Thanks again
They are one of the hardier tangs, so you should have no problem with them. A 125 is big enough for one, or even a group of 3. You would have to put a group in last though, because they are very active and would scare more timid fish if added after the convicts. Post some pictures if you get one, I would love to see it.
I found that adding four to a 210 was simply too much and I had small ones, around 3-4" all of them.
They arent aggressive fish towards other tangs that I could see at least, but they are very aggressive eaters. Even my big angels and my dussumieri tang would start acting nervous when the convicts went into feeding mode.
I got rid of three of them and just kept one and it was a great fish
I think one problem you might face is finding a healthy one. For whatever reasons, the Convict I have seen in the stores, have been horribly thin/underweight.
Thanks to all , seems to be a tang to try. Will research the thin aspect and find out what thats about. If I can get one ordered from LFS it will be a few weeks anyway. Will def post pics.................
