Cooked Rock - Cycle?

I've had some rock and sand sitting in a bucket with saltwater for a couple months - No flow or heat - Man did it stink!

I've scrubbed the rock somewhat and put in a 5g with new SW, powerhead and heater-

I've rinsed out the sand with RO and got most of the stink out - I've now got it in new SW with a MJ1200 for flow. The MJ gets warm, so I figure it'll do.

My question is, will this "cooked" sand and rock start a new cycle?

IMO the sand should be tossed or rinsed thoroughly.

Cooking rock is a 4-6 week or longer process of weekly fresh water changes and dunking and swooshing of the rock in several buckets to clean it. Since the rock sat in stagnant water for months, I would definitely recommend cooking it.
