ok i have a 24g nano, with one purple firefish a bunch of soft and LPS coral and shrimp. Im looking to add a cool centerpiece fish about medium sized. this tank is skimmerless so im keeping the bioload low.

You might want to consider adding a scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp. Always a crowd pleaser. With a nano tank you are really limited fish wise with what you can add to it. IMO a purple firefish would be considered a centerpiece fish for a tank that small.

firefish make great centerfish, just have a lid.

there are some nice looking damsels around but they may bully your goby.

no way am i getting a damsel, percs are overated, and no wrasses, i had a sixline in my old tank, he ate every shrimp i put in.

fairy wrasses are always nice, atlantic pygme angles(had one didnt nip at anything but clams) or hell 24g is big enough get something like a potters angle. any goby/pistol shrimp combo is cool, if you can find em blue cardinals are sweet, basselets, citron gobys, if you dont like percs how about a maroon?

as far as shrimp go, i always like fire shrimp and harliquins(sp?)

24g isn't large enough for a Potter's. Centropyge angels, especially the larger ones, need lots of live rock for grazing and room to swim. A maroon will also get too large IMO and would probably kill the firefish as she aged; in a tank that size she'll see the entire thing as her territory and want everyone else out.
How about a black & white clown (or a pair)? They're more unusual than the traditional orange, and a great choice for nanos. They don't demand too much swimming room, they're hardy, and they're full of personality. Some varieties will get too large, but skunks, percs or ocellaris would all do well.

What about one of the Liopropoma basslets? They tend to hide a bit, but definitely centerpiece material, IMO. Also, as was mentioned before, the flasher or fairy wrasses.

flasher wrasses get pretty big plus they like harems to be happy.
there are tons of cool pseudochromis -- there's an australian pseudochromis or splendid that have great finnage and even bettercolor plus they eat bristleworms

Size depends upon species. Most common species stay barely above three inches. Some get about twice that size, some even smaller. More common ones get no bigger than many of the aforementioned examples. Whether or not they are "happy" in harems is purely subjective. They may not "flash" as often, but it seem to have no real impact on their longevity or suitability in aquaria. They do well singly or in harems.

?!?!?!

Potters get to 5" plus. I've got one in my 58, and its too small of a tank. The pygmy angels are huge swimmers. Most of the fairy wrasses also get 4-5".

Maroon clowns should be out of the question in a tank that small.

possum wrasse look awesome, great fish, im going to get one of those, would it also be possible to get a perc also? so purple firefish, possum wrasse, and a perc. does it matter if i add the wrasse before the perc?

I recently added a possum wrasse to my 30g. Cool fish but pretty shy as he tends to swim in and around the rockwork. Rarely ventures out into the middle of the tank, especially when I'm around.

Another fish that I recently picked up and would highly recommend is an African Leopard Wrasse (Macropharyngodon bipartitus). Gets to about 4" max and a very active and beautiful fish.

I really wouldnt reccomend any of the leapord wrasses in a 24g.

THese fish are pod eaters, and tough to get to eat prepared.
