Copepods

I have a couple of small copepod cultures. The problem is that most have died and only 1 culture is really going. How can I revive the culture? Or does someone have a good way to culture them? Thanks

Any idea what copepods you are working with? Can you describe your set-up, etc? Telling me that would greatly help me narrow down what I would recommend to you :)

Tigger pods. My "setup" is about 5 small jars with copepods. In a mix of phytoplankton. Nothing to complicated.

I think tigger pods are a cold water species so unless you keep the water cold i think the other batch will perish too. I would buy a warm water strain. Also are you trying to use these for raising fish or for pipefish and mandarins?

My mistake, they are not tigger pods. I got them from Livecopepods.com. I think they are Tisbe sp. Either way, I don't have a specfic need for them right now. I would like to get a mandarin eventually. So if someone could give me a setup for mass culturing. I don't need a huge setup or anything.

That would be false. While they do come from the West Coast of the US, there range is from Alaska to Central America. They also do not live in the ocean. They live in the upper splash zone of tide pools which can get very hot in the summer months, hotter then your reef tank can handle.

We've found our breed better at warmer temps and have been bred in such temps for nearly 5 years now.

Since you got them from Adelaide, doesn't she offer culture advice on her website? If not, head over to www.MarineBreeder.org and check out the zooplankton forum. There are several threads on culturing them and their requirements. I'd tell you myself but Tisbe is one I have not worked with.

Thanks learn something new everyday. Do you have any pics of your pod cultures?
