Copepods?

What do copepods do? I have a ton of them in my nano cube, I know they are good for your tank, but in what way.

Their are only zoos and a frogspawn and 3 tiny hermit crabs in the nano.

I think i spelled copepods wrong??????

Naw, its ok, I dont have much of a sandbed anyways and I wouldnt want to give what little sand I have.

They eat detritus and fish poop. Since they are near the bottom of the food chain in your tank (at least the visible food chain), other pods and worms will process detritus and wastes, producing different wastes, and so on down until you get to the bacteria that consume wastes -- which you then remove from the tank with water changes.

Copepods: good. (In general; there are a few very rare harmful species.)

Thanks Nicole, that explains alot. I noticed that their isnt much detritus build up in this nano cube.

Fish eat them, and they help break down waste, so it's a vital part of the tank's ecosystem. In my own tank, I have mostly fish that will forage for pods and algae, so it's pretty self-sustaining, with not so much reliance on timely feeding.

i really need some as i am trying to get my refug under way since i dont really have many Copepods and have NO Macro... i will be in Irving tomorrow if you have any more to spare after tamphuong :)
