A few days ago I noticed what looked like a little cut on the side of my copperband, today it looks much worse and is looking a little black around the cut, any idea what it has and how to treat it?
The fish is acting normal but I am worried about what this could be, the other fish are acting healthy so I'm guessing he nicked himself on a rock and it got infected, if this is true what would be the best treatment
The fish is in a reef tank, was and is currently feeding in clams in the half shell and continues to pick at the rock, all other fish look and act normal
Idk what other information you need, I will try to get a clearer photo
Day 3 of dosing melafix and he actually looks a little better, when I first dose it the corals close a little but after an hour you can't even tell it was dosed
Although it looks better, keep an eye on it. I had a CBB in qt die from a bacterial infection that spread quickly. All I had on hand at the time was Melafix so I dosed that. After a day with no change I figured that since Melafix is a natural antibiotic I would need something stronger. I had the antibiotics the next day, but it was too late he passed the following day.
Just to close out this thread the cbb did end up dieing, for anyone in a similar predicament I would recommend putting the fish into a qt and treating with real antibiotics
There should be a sticky for medications that everyone should have on hand and what they treat. I am sorry for your loss, now you see firsthand how important QT is.
