Copper Safe and Glass tanks

Friend of mine is upgrading his 40g FW setup to reef. In the past he has used CopperSafe in this tank few times.

Is there anything needs to be done first in order to use this tank? Other than the tank, no other items will be used from FW setup.

I have never used any medication on any of my tanks, so I have no knowledge on this subject.

You should be fine.

First, I remember reading from a reliable source that carbon will help remove copper. I'm not sure I believe it, but . . . Second, I ran a QT with coppersafe several times, and then running only carbon and waterchanges, plopped several snails into the QT tank. They lived just fine for many months.

Third, you can always throw in a few polyfilters, which are designed to take out copper (among other things).

Personally I think the whole "use copper ever and the tank is no good forever" thing is overhyped.

Lastly, you can always give the tank an acid wash to definitely clean out any copper. Do a search on how.

It is possible for it to be leached out from the silicon, but I think that If you do waterchanges like you should, especially for the first year, then It will probably be just fine.

copper is not adsorbed into silicone. all you need to do is wash the tank well with vinegar and rinse well with water

yes, carbon does take out coppersafe. I always use it to remove the copperafe I use on occasion, and it cleans down to absoultly no trace of itr whatsoever. I have done this many times.

Thanks guys. I will wash and rise with vinegar solution and then do freshwater + carbon bath for a day or so.
