Copper treatment

I qt my wrasse yesterday because of ich. bought him sat. and noticed on sun.. I am using copper for treatment. I added 8ml instead of 10 because he is small. Anyway i have a 10g. and i added water from the main tank. I checked the amonia and its 0.05 after i did a 20% change today. does copper increase amonia levels and what should i do.

You need to check the levels everyday.

How big is the wrasse?

I am assuming this is a new setup since you used old saltwater (which is fine) but its probabyl going through 'normal' ammonia spikes from an uncycled tank.

Do you have any sort of filtration on the tank?

on the qt tank it came with the hang on filter with biofilter and the carbon filter. The main tank has been cycling for 4 weeks with cured rock. I thought everything was fine as parameters were reading fine at 3 weeks so i bought a six line wrasse dripped him for 1 1/2hrs and didn't have a qt tank. I guess i learned the hard way. Presently i've decided to forget the copper and try hypo but how long does the tank stay at .09 before i slowly raise it up to .024. temp is 80 and gravity is .020 and decreasing. I can't see any ich spots

you need to get a refractometer and get the salinity to 9 ppt keep it there for 6 weeks.

watch your ph it may drop and need buffered up due to the hypo.

.09 gravity is to low also there will be ich in your main tank leave it empty of fish for 6 weeks.

The correct salinity is 14ppt (Specific Gravity of about 1.009). I think Andrewsmart got the two backwards.

i did terry cheeres i was just about to correct myself.

it is late here 4 am.

I dropped it down but he was doing to well. i've raised it back up and started the copper treatment, put my biofilter in and been doing water changes like crazy. Amonia has dropped a bit and he's doing better for now thanks

you need to make sure the copper is at the correct level.

a good test kit will tell you this use salifert they are the best by a long way.

the size of the fish should not affect the copper dose just the desired level tank size etc.

if you are doing lots of water changes you may be diluting the copper level most likely you will.

get a kit and follow the guide lines.

glad your fish is getting better.
