Hi,

I am looking for a good copper product to treat ick. I'v read a lot of good stuff on Seachem Cupramine which is unfortunately not available in my country.

As I understand it Cupramine is based on complexed copper ?

Is Cupramine a unique type of copper not found in any other manufacturers products ?

I have something called esha trimarin available, which contains:

Cuprum 2+ 7,4 mg/ml
Rivanolum 5,0 mg/ml
Proflavinae 0,7 mg/ml

Can anyone tell me what type of copper the name "Cuprum 2+" covers ?

Thanks

I believe that 'Cuprum 2+' is the simplest form of copper ion that forms in solution, also called copper sulfate. It is not unique to this product if that is the case.

As I understand it, what makes Cupramine so safe is that the copper molecules are complexed with an amine group as opposed to something like EDTA. The copper bonds more securely to the amine group than it would to most chelating agents, making the molecule both more stable in solution and safer for fish.
