Copperband Butterfly VS. Yellow Tang

Added in a CBB yesterday, and the Yellow Tang in the tang HATES the poor thing. I have no other tang to put the YT into, and I can't get the CBB to eat anymore, he ate fine before it all started, but now its an all out war. Tank size: 90g Fish are about the same size which doesn't really help either. HELP PLEASE!

Put the yellow tang in an isolation box for a few days and maybe even rearrange some rock work before letting it out.

I would just take the CBB back and keep the yellow tang only because it's more colorful and hardy, and less finicky than the CBB.

I do not have a refugium, but as I say this, things have gotten A LOT better! "surprisingly" The CBB has been coming out instead of hiding behind the rock work, and the tang is leaving it alone for the most part, im going to check on it again in the morning before I head to school. "im only 15" I'll feed the tank with frozen mysis, which the CBB loved before, and i'll update again after I'm home. Thanks for the input though, if things are bad again tomorrow, I'll definitely look into the suggestions!

If I were you, I will find a way to re-home the YT ASAP. An eating CBB is much harder to come by.

^^ I'm with this guy. The YT will just keep causing problems. I personally would tailor all future fish purchases around an eating CBB.

I would feed the tank Mysis mixed with dry food. Frozen food by itself does not have enough nutrition.

Ok, got home from school and fed the tank this morning, and just now. He barely ate but maybe 1 or 2 frozen mysis this morning, but when I fed just a few minutes ago, I mixed it with some flake food, and while the other fish ate both, he went crazy on mysis. I'm not sure how much they usually are supposed to eat, but he ate about 10 - 20 mysis. I haven't seen the YT go after him much, but when he does, the CBB turns on his side and pokes him with his spines that he has. I think things are a lot better, and are still improving, so hopefully no fish will be taken out of the tank, but if I end up having to, the YT is moving out!

Sounds to me like things are going well. That is normal copperband behavior, and unfortunately normal yellow tang behavior. The aggression from the tang should go away, and the copperband should be fine. Glad you have one that is eating.

sc50964, I definitely agree with that! I'll constantly be looking for problems, and hope it stays well! pinnatus, I'm glad I got one that is eating as well, I never knew how hard it was to find one that's eating, and that eats while stressed. Thank you for the information, and I'll try to keep updated on how its doing. How much should a CBB east on average? It ate about 10-20 mysis, but not sure if that very much, or a lot. Thanks!!!

I've had mine for 4 yrs or so and new life spectrum finicky pellet was what started it. There is a MI thread on this forum. Check it out.
