Do you honestly believe that you are the only person that can get fish at wholesale price? I purchased 5 Bartlett Anthias at $8 per fish.

I am "hating" on this thread due to the simple fact that this hobby gets a bad reputation because of people like you. You are willing to spend $20 on a fish that has a dismal survival rate in home aquaria and should therefore be left in the ocean unless you are an experienced reefer willing to put in the man hours and dedication these fish require...which by reading your post you obviously are not.

It is the nature of the CBB (in general) to be a timid fish upon introduction to aquaria. They are shy and timid eaters, often times grazing upon live rock throughout the day and rarely eating frozen, flake, or pellet food. These fish often times need treatment in an isolated QT to encourage them to eat prepared foods voraciously. Was a QT a part of your plan for this fish? What other fish are going to be in the DT with the CBB?

Everyday there are countless threads started on this site regarding people purchasing fish they know little to nothing about, putting them in too small of tanks, and then wondering why they died! If these people would take a day to do some research they would be able to find the critical information they are looking for regarding these fishes.

I guess I have just had enough with seeing countless mandarins, butterflies and tangs subjected to less than ideal conditions because of ignorance. Say what you will but the odds are stacked against the CBB, but I hope it beats those odds for you and can survive.

I think that you came across as not reading the info on keeping the fish before hand. Hence the small amount of bashing. You sound like a good guy, just read your posts before you send them. Best of luck.
 
Don't get discourage from all these comments. There are many aquarist that have successfully kept these fish in captivity.

This is what I would do, feed frozen food 2times a day. Each meal, feed a different type of food. I would purchase at least 4 frozen food.

SCHEDULE:

MORNING: frozen food 1
AFTERNOON: pellets/flakes
NIGHT: frozen food 2

MORNING: frozen food 3
AFTERNOON: pellets/flakes
NIGHT: frozen food 4

Try feeding something along the lines of that.

The key is to buy one that already eats frozen food. Mine was a pig ate anything except pellets or flake. Never had aptasia. Got along great with other fish never touched corals. But it would attack snails and eat them if they fell over very cool fish IMO I did lose mine after a year and a half due to the poor thing ruptured its floater :( you will have success with it as long as he eats frozen for you.
 
i have one right now in QT. he ate at the fish store so it was a plus. mysis, brine and blood worms are good source with selcon/garlic.

mine seems to love bloodworms. eats them up real quick.
 
I was also told not to get the CBB. I ordered mine online, arrived at the house. Still thriving years later.

He eats blackworms/mysis/any meaty food.

Try blackworms to entice, if don't work then go to market and by clams.

It's already too late when he made that ignorant stupid comment about the 20 bucks and not a big loss if the fish dies.

Problem is. Too many people in the hobby seem to think that way and give the hobby in general a very bad name! Only fueling the environment police figures like Snorkel Bob!

Wo........ people!! This is a hobby right. There are many other things in life to worry about then to bash a person about them not knowing how to take care for a fish or take a comment out of context. He stated that he didn't mean the way it sounded. I will admit the statement does not read good. It's a mistake. Everything in life started.... has a beginning, so every member on this site started at the beginning and has made mistakes. loganthebomb did mention that he did not pick the fish. His friend did. So he did what anyone would have done, which was to ask questions. This is one of the benefits that this site offers. Sometimes the opportunity to purchase certain fish only comes around once in awhile. The CBB I just purchased, I did not see it eat at the LFS. It just arrived. Once in my tank it would not eat at first. I did a little research. I knew a few of the pros and cons. I was confident in my abilities/experience. I started a thread to ask questions. I got plenty of replies and now my CBB is eating frozen food and blood worms. It looks very healthy. loganthebomb, no ones perfect in this hobby. The only one that's perfect and get's saltwater/reefing right is the man upstairs and it's not a hobby to him. Good luck with your CBB hope all works out like it did for me.

I kept one for 8 years before it passed of what I can only assume was old age.
I agree that most people fail at keeping these fish. They are often picky eaters, and will only eat live food. I got mine to eat small pellets, but 80% of the time he was grazing the rocks.
 
first off i dont get them at wholesale price.i get them direct from the wholesaler.bartlett anthias go for 4.81 right now

I'm not sure who is in charge of monitoring this tread, IMO most of this is should be rejected!!!!!!
We come here for good solid information. This stuff is way off base.

jeez.. i would bet a hefty amount of users here have spent money on this fish and lost it.
i would also bet a good amount bought another and have lost multiples.
this is a fish that is a known pain in the butt.

to jump on the OP for this situation is silly. soooo many have tried it and failed. they also
probably thought the same way.. ooh look.. the fish is only 25-35 bucks. I will give it a go.
 
i know im part of what should be rejected but i think the hole thing should be deleted and then iwould post the post in a better worded way

To get back on topic I just posted this in another thread.
I tried injecting aptasia with everything known to mankind! It got rid of some of them, but they won that battle. So I tried peppermint shrimp. Once again, even though the peppermints ate some of them, the aptasia won. Then I got a copperband butterfly. He eradicated all of them in about a month, and I literally had them on every rock. Thousands of the little buggers. Now that all the aptasia were gone my copperband was starving as he didn't eat anything else. It took me several months to get him to eat trying everything. Turned out he only like PE mysis. I had him for the next four years until I broke down my tank and never had a single aptasia!
