i want to fatten up my copperband..i know you can feed it clams squid and so on...do you have to cut them up or mince them do to their mouth size ? or can you just put them whole for them to pick at...any other feeding tips would be nice too... thanx in advance

Mince the seafoods into long thin strips. I have a marginalis, and he has a hard time with anything larger than the diameter of his mouth. But the piece can be 1.5" long and he'll swallow it whole.

Mine only eats frozen mysis and spirulina brine shrimp w/ gusto and I feed it small meals about 3-4 times/day. It's not interested in anything else at the moment. It's my first CBB (about 3-4 inches), so I guessed I lucked out as it ate right out of the bag from LFS. It's been happy and active and gaining size/weight on this regime. Best of luck to yours!

ive had them before... longest one for about 2 years... but it seems like frozen food just dosnt give them the nutrition they need...i have live black worms now but cbb isnt interested in them yet...so i figure maybe something else will fatten it up...they are by far one of my favorite fish and im hell bent on keeping one fat and happy...

I'm surprised that it's not interested in the live blackworms. I'd say keep trying them. I tried them 3 times and only the last one made it past 6 months. The last one got handfeed live blackworms everyday and I had it for around a year. I had to remove him due to picking on my new clam. Good luck. An awesome fish.

It costs me more money to keep my Copperband well fed than my 50 lb. Border Collie with a super high metabolism. Kind of crazy but it's worth it in the end...

Lots of very mature LR is essential, IMO, lots of good foods listed above I agree with Snorvich, live blackwoorms are a hassle, but CBs thrive on them. Mine have also done well with spirulina enriched brine; the only good use for adult brine shrimp, IMO. Love the Curly avitar! nyuck, nyuck, nyuck! (At 63, I should be too old for that, but NEVER!)

ive kept one sucesfully before...mowed aptasia like crazy and lived off just frozen food...but always looked anorexic...i have blackworms just not taking yet...we'll see what happens..im gonna make this happen...BTW Turk never to old or to yound for the stooges LOL!!! im only 40 and grew up on them and my 7 year old likes them too...:P

KDS, I've had my copperband for a year and half now. I feed him black worms in QT while he learned how to eat frozen. Between the black worms and a lot of Apista he fattened up very nice. I keep him in QT for 3 months until I felt he was eating frozen good enough. After a year in the DT I felt that he was looking thin so I stated to feed him via a net with PE Mysis and a few bloodworms. He is the only fish that can pick food through the net and will now just go into the net and gourd himself. He has grown more in the past three months than he did in a year and is as healthy as ever. I've also found that he eats vigorously when I place a net full of food in the tank about 15 min before the lights come on and again right after the lights go off.

i saw someone with a real nifty feeding trick for long nose butterflyfish..

he had an acrylic like tube with openings where only the LNB can stick its mouth in it for access to the food.
