Copperband Health Assessment

I picked up this Copperband Butterfly at my local LFS a couple days ago. It has been in my 20L quarantine since. It has a piece of LR with a bunch of small aiptasias to munch on. It was in a fairly small tank at the LFS that was loaded with rock...seemed like more rock than water. Anyway, it has abrasions on its side which im assuming are from the rock. It also has white marks on its tail. It looks too big to be ich. I was hoping to get a second opinion on the condition of the fish....

If he eats he will probably be fine. Feed him real food like frozen squid or steamer clams and he will thrive. Stay away from the brine shrimp and krill prepared food stuff. Very lttle real value and very dirty. Like feeding your kids popcorn all day. Mine has lived and thrived in a very aggressive reef tank eating only fresh frozen squid and clams for over six years.

Dog boy Dave,

How often are you feeding your copperband squid and clams? I've had one for about 4 months or so eating mysis. I want to switch it up and fatten him up some.

My CBB had a spot on its tail for a really long time after I got it. I think these guys are real prone to lymphocystis. The spot eventually fell off and hasn't come back. It was not an ich spot, as it was rather large. That may be what yours has. It looks exactly like mine did. Get yourself some live black worms. Mine eats these, frozen mysis, and clam like a champ. No luck on pellets yet, though. Give yours time, hopefully it will perk up.

I fed him every morning and he grazes as well. I posted a video of them eating on the enticing your copper band to eat thread.

My CBB eats blackworms, and food mix (shrimp/scallop/clam/squid/oyster),PE mysis. I try to vary what i feed so fish can have a variety of nutrition. CBB eats like a pig, and hovers at the top of the water when he sees me.

Those spots definitely look like lympho. Good feeding, clean water, low stress... all these will make them go away faster. It's a virus, like warts on a human, and if the body is stressed and the immune system not working well, the lympho will continue to grow/spread.

My CBB eat frozen black worms, brine shrimps and chopped seaweed soaked in garlic and selcon. She had spots as if it was icks but went away in a few weeks. If she eat well then I wouldn't worry about it too much. Sometime I think my CBB think she a tang because she chow on the sea weed more than anything else.
