Where is that fisah ritht now? I'm really developing an aptasia problem! Where there were only 3, there are at least 10, between my 2 tanks. I am soon combining the 2 tanks to 1 & would like to add the butterfly to eat the anemones after that. I can pass the fish on when it's done.

you will be very lucky if you receive this fish at all if it is being passed from tank to tank..the stress levels on this fish have got to be masssive how many tanks has fish been introduced to so far??please think twice about passing along livestock and what types of diseases may be passed from one tank to another ....

I am not sure if stress on animals is cumulative in that way. My fish shows no signs of the stress that resulted from its initial capture ... the LFS took care of that ... and now that it has been in my tank, it is fully acclimated and happy and swimming. I imagine that a healthy, stress-free fish can be moved regardless of the number of times it has been moved in the past as long as it stress-free and healthy at the time of the move.

for about 1 year i had 1 aptasia in my tank. never bothered with it. decided to squirt it with some Joe's Juice. a few days later i had little aptasias all over my tank. a few months later they became rather prevalent.

about 3 weeks ago i bought a peperment shrimp and it didn't touch the stuff. one morning i woke up and noticed all the aptasia were gone.

my advice is to buy a pep shrimp and be patient with it.

Every single pep shrimp I've ever put in there has dissappeared.

Just because you do not see them does not mean that they are not still there. I thought that mine were all gone as well but low and behold I do see several of them from time to time.

In the past 2 years I have added at least 6. Never see any one of them & the aptasia keep multiplying. Shouldn't I assume they're not in there anymore. Even after placing them in there, the aptasia were still there the next week.

it took my guy about a month to start on it. the guy is incredibly shy on comes out at dinner and late night. im assuming he is the one doing it because i havent done anything else. i introduced 2 the smaller guy swam directly toward clown town and messed up beyond recognition after about a minute. the survivor is going to town i guess. i have never seen him do it though.

the weird thing is that peppermint is agressive. i cant prove it but i think he deep sixed one of my cleaners. after i introduced him they would go at it for a choice spot in the rock work. weird

Jeni - glbtrottr is the one who started this CB loaner thing, so PMing him may give you a better idea about where the fish is right now.

Also, did you happen to have a cleaner shrimp in the tank where your peppermints disappeared?

a reef safe fish and very harty fish also is a silver scat.. these fish are mainly herbivores which eat pesky algaes but also eat aiptasia and well the name scat comes from its a waste eater.
sold as fw or brackish these fish are inexpencive and are easily acclimated to full marine enviroment.be forwarned in yrs to come they will grow to a diam of 14 inches and are venomus ..but as i stated a great clean up crew all by himself

you know what i do that works GREAT? inject them with some concentrated lemon juice. You gotta make sure you inject them before they retract (take a little practice) and they fall off within the hour (i usually siphon them out) and i have not seen them come back at all. The smaller ones are harder to get tho.. so u might have to let them get bigger.... ?

SCAT-A huge fishy garbage can & big waste producer too. Only the dorsal is venemous.

Bob Fenner mentions the lemon juice method. I think I'll try that. Do I need a needle to inject that?

yeah puffer, you need a syringe. You gotta hover over them, strike and inject as fast as you can... it takes a little practice, but once you get it down, they dont stand a chance! remember to siphon them out once they fall off. I dont think they can grow back.. but just to be sure... :D

if you read throuigh some of robert fenners articles about the silver scat he also states these are not a hardy species and normally only live to be 2 yrs old in a captive tank. i read this once and sent him a photo of mine which is now 10 inches in length and 5 yrs old being in my tank..i have never had aiptasia or problem algaes in this tank in 5 yrs..
