Copperbanded Butterfly

My Copperbanded Butterfly fish, had him for two weeks in the DT, in those two weeks he has completly demolished a few dozen aptasia. Which makes him pretty awesome to me haha! Before I bought him from LFS I made sure he was eating, they fed him some PE Mysis which he ate readily. He is still eating PE Mysis, but also enjoys Live brine gutloaded with Selcon, Frozen Brine, and LOVES selcon soaked baby clams on the half shell. He is a very very pretty fish that I have fallen in love with, and has yet to do anything to make me belive that isn't reef safe.. but ya never know..

Here is a video I made of him eating Aptasia's like there candy.. he demolished them all out of the tank before I could get a good video, so I had to 'borrow' some small pieces of LR from the Pico tank to get a good vid of him eating them :D

Hope you enjoy! Also, had anyone kept one of these fish long term in a reef tank? I know they are finiky eaters, but I hope I can handle that. Anything I should look into or take notice to for taking care of this fish in the long term? I did quiet a bit of research on this fish and passed up and a good half dozen of them before I got this guy ( couldn't get them to eat, or see them eat) so I think I made a good choice on which CBB I chose, but there is always something that you can learn!

Sounds like you're off to a great start with this guy. Just make sure to keep water parameters perfect, these fish can go downhill fast.

Sounds like you are doing well. Keep up the food variety. Live blackworms are normally appreciated. May or may not be reef safe. Roll of the dice.

Cool thanks for the info guys, I will keep an extra eye on water parameters, but that shouldn't be a problem. Live blackworms are not something that I have tryed before, might have to pick some up from the LFS and check that out sometime soon. Thanks for the tip!

Nice find and good for you for being patience and deliberate in your search for a healthy specimen. I've always liked the CBB, but currently do not have a tank safe for one. I agree a varied diet will help increase your success with these fish.

Good luck.

Still not long term but my CB just passed the two year mark in my mixed reef. Looks like you're off to a good start. Blackworms are a great choice if you can get them. Unfortunately I've never been able to find them locally here.

Thin slices of scallop, and clams on the half shell worked great to fatten up my CB. Rogger's frozen food in a mesh type feeder also works great and lets him feed more naturally.

As for reef safeness, I keep pretty much everything but clams and meaty LPS and I've never had an issue.

Good luck!

Good idea with the mesh type feeder! I'll have to grab one of those when I pick up the worms :D He hasn't messed with any corals yet, but I am worried now that he has desimated any and all aptasia that were eluding me and my Joes Juice, that he could possibly start to 'graze' on something of that sort. (Hopefully he stays away from the Crocea) Ill update here and there on this thread on his nature and how hes doing for anyone interested :D
