Cora Life Super Skimmer 220 on 180

Okay, I will be getting my CoraLife Super Skimmer on Friday. It will be going on my 180 gallon that I am still working on getting equipment for.

I will be using it as a hang on type, since I won't be having a sump/refugium.

Do you think that this will be big enough? or should I add a second one also?

It is rated for tanks up to 220 gallons with a moderate bioload, so you should be fine in a 180.

I've never been impressed with Coralife products and would recommend choosing another brand if you haven't already purchased the Coralife.

This skimmer will end up being a back up. (the price is reasonable)

I am just wanting to get something until my hubby allows me the funds to purchase the hang on Deltec MCE600.

I wonder if Deltec has thought of making a larger hang on skimmer. I am not knowledgeable (sp?) enough to plumb a sump without having to drill holes in my tank. (not sure I would want to drill holes even if I knew how to in acrylic). I even thought of going with a closed loop if I could figure out how to plumb it over the top.

How much is the Deltec MCE600 going for these days?

I'm wondering if it would be easy to extend the length of those horizontal pipes so it can hang on the back of my tank and reach the opening on the middle.

Deltec's website show it to be $468.00 before shipping, but I read in the Deltec forum that as of Feb. 1, they were having a price increase and I don't think the website shows that yet.

i have a coralife 220 on my 90.
I like it a lot, but I and others think 100 is probably max for this skimmer, even though it says 220.
My advice, tomorrow is VD. Tell your hubby skip the dinner or gifts
and get the deltec.
you'll be happier in the long run.
By the way, there are a lot of people here that will help you
w/ sump. You'll have a lot more choices

Yeah, I would love to do so, but I still owe the price of the Deltec on the crown I am supposed to be getting.

Once, that is done...here I come Deltec. hehe

Since, I rent I am scared of flooding this place. (but with everything there are risks involved) At least it is going on the ground floor and is tile.

Before I get everything set in stone...I may start asking for help in the sump department, cause I really would like to keep a fuge also.

I hear you, thats why I have a css220.
It's a good skimmer, but I would keep the bioload low.
Watchit during breakin if you're worried about flooding.
Alot of people have said theirs went crazy after water change or certain foods.
Alot of people hook a tube to the drain plug going to a one gallon jug.
Some even put that jug in a container for extra security.

Thanks for the comments davocean. I am also thinking of getting a 5 gallon bucket or similar for the drain plug.

i have two and i'm pretty happy with them one in a 70 and other in a 110. yeah they do go crazy fairly easily... but pulls quite a bit out of water (but then agian i'm fairly new to the hobby so... )
