Okay, so I got my second coral and couldn't wait to post. It is still closed up from the transition into my tank, but here is a photo anyways:

It has burgundy color lobes with green mouths inside. It is a lobophyllia of some sort (I think that is the right name). LFS said is was a brain coral that starting with bal_____. Something like ballista???

Thanks, now I just need to find the exact name of it. It is starting to come out, but I will wait until tomorrow to take another picture when it is fully out.

Here it is now. It was just fed, so the white feeders are still out. Sorry I didn't clean the glass first:

do you have to feed these things often?

It depends on who you ask. Some will say monthly, some weekly, some 2-3 times per week, and the list goes on. I wouldn't mind a more definitive answer myself.

Since I have fish that I feed daily, the coral get some as it circulates around. I figure I should spot feed it after lights out occasionally, but I don't have a routine yet. I do have a fuge, so my pod population is decent. I figure the coral will eat some of those at night as well.

I recently tried out cyclopeeze and the small pieces circulate around the tank and stay suspended so everyone gets some. A little goes a long way with this stuff. I highly recommend it for fish and corals. I hear it really deepens the coloring on clownfish as well, but my clowns look good already.

i think feeding your LPS depends on the results you want to achieve. With adequate lighting you will not need to feed at all directly (remember when you feed your tank they are getting enough from the water column, cyclopeeze is a great option). Those who want to see fast growth do in fact feed their corals directly. My routine is to wait till my halides/actinics are out and only my moonlights are on, then turn off the pumps so there is no flow, then squirt cyclpeeze on to my LPS with a turkey baster. It seems to be working for me so far...

How often do you target feed?
