Coral addicts...

I stopped into Just Fish today. They have a mother load of corals. I'd say about a hundred.

I jotted down some of the stuff I saw for yas...

flowerpots, brain galore (including small reds... gorgeous), elegance, montipora (including an orange), BIG freaking sun polyps (one of my favs), shrooms, croacea (one dark purple), toad stool, hammer, kenya, colt ("buds" looked a bit dark purple), favia, feather dusters (<3), buttons, harbour gobies (like 3+ inches long and sifting away, and bubble coral.

No ricordea (that I noticed), but seemed like they had everything else pretty much covered. They have frags, too (just stuff that loose in shipping, not cut).

There was also a gigantinormous piece of rock. I'd say between 60 & 70 lbs.. Could be used as base or an arch (with a little trimming). I would hate to see it busted up as it had alot of apparent stuff still alive on it and it is just pleasing to the eye in shape (soft 'V' shaped).

One of the largest selections I've seen in the immediate area in a long time.

I came away with live brine, bigantimous polyps, and some froggy M.C. Hammah type stuff. Going diving now!

What kind of drive is it from the Philly airport?

Thanks!

52 Fox Hunt Dr
Bear, DE 19701

Sorry about posting this so late for ya, Rhine, but my RC account had to be reactivated after I changed my email addy in my profile today.

I stopped by today - very interesteing seleciton - a lot of pieces - a few elegance corals, which is kind of a rarity lately - but $80 for a small piece is a bit steep for me.

I did notice that they have ready-made saltwater (natural sea water - filtered then fortified! ) I think I might stop by to pick up a few 4.4-gallon packs for use in re-setting up my tank at my new residence (anyone wanna help move a tank :) - pm me if your'e interested)

Thanks!

Is this place worth the trip from Philly?

I have been looking for a nice red open brain coral.

Are they nice and worth the price + drive?

Thanks!

I would say no its not worth a trip from philly!!!!!!

Customer service is horrible, the place freaking reaks... Prices are high, and this place is definently more out to make a buck then to help you have a nice reef. STAY AWAY

I have vowed to never shop in that store unless its a emergency... Come to think of it i wont buy live stock from any of the "local stores" unless its a emergency....

But hey Petco has "cups" of live sand for $2.00 LMAO i wouldnt drink from there water fountain let alone put their water and sand in my tank

I strongly disagree with you on the customer service I have been going to Just Fish for years and have had nothing but good service.

I was there yesterday checking out the new corals and they have a great selection. I picked up a few pieces myself.

I recommend taking the time to go there. I don't think you will be dissappointed.

Rhine,
last time i was at ECA (last monday) they had a real nice red open brain about 3" diameter that i was thinking about getting but didnt. you should check them out. if they still dont have that, then ask if they can order you one.

"Prices are high, and this place is definently more out to make a buck then to help you have a nice reef."

Hi, they are a business. :) They are ALL out to get our bucks.

I've not been to any LFS (Now including TPP) and not had some kind of negative experience. Nor, have I ordered online from two different places and not had some kind of difficulty.

There are stores that I consider better than others. There are stores that I will use for dry goods in a pinch and not buy their livestock. Just Fish is not one of them.

"Customer service is horrible, the place freaking reaks."

Hi, it is a pet store. And not ~just fish~, yes, I find that funny considering the name. I figure they expanded at some point because of demand and the ability to make more money. Animals poop, occasionally they barf. Welcome to the wonderful world of pets.

I've been going to Just Fish for about three years now or so. I've taken the time to get to know them by asking questions. Not every customer will do that, which I get. I know their strengths and weaknesses just like EVERY other store. I have found them to be open to reasonable discounts on reasonable items, open to suggestions, and more than willing to call if a particular item comes in that I want.

My post was meant to be informative for those who I know in the club that already shop there.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I ask... how many "bad experiences" does it take for any of us to stop going to a particular vendor? I understand that the dynamics of the experiences play a part also. I am interested in the arrival of responses.

This was NOT meant to be turned into a flame thread. As it seems that it has headed in that direction, I would ask that responses be kept factual and considerate. I welcome exact telling of events that bring people to their opinions, yet blanket negative statements get us nowhere.

Oh yeah, they keep reworking the just fish place. and changing livestock. I'm not in need of buying too much these days. tanks are full. but i still do like to cruise the local stores at least once a month or more often. and if i see something i want. i get it. no problem. othewise its like a short trip to the aquarium to see how things are doing.

hey have you noticed newark tropicals bought some new odysea HQI and PC lights for their display tank about a month ago. its adapting to the blue light change and starting to look a bit better. I usually get a bigger kick out of the misc. snails and macro they have growing in the display tanks. interesting assortment of red macros. and a good bunch of red dragon tongue macro. they need to spread it around the tanks as a bio filter and it just looks nice too.

and of course there is the perpetual display tank upgrade going on at greenbanks. slow but sure. Bill's getting there. any bets on when he finishes? oh well thats my entertainment for the week. a trip to a store to see whats changing. some life, Huh?

I'm with you bloop - I've had bad expereiences eveywhere that I've been more than a handful of times - sooner or later someone has "high" prices, or badly-chosen livestock - it's something that you come to expect in this hobby.

When people ask my "favorite place" to go, I definately have an opinion - but I've given up trashing any specific place that isn't my favorite becuase at the end of the day - the more LFS's that exist means a better selection and good competition. I do like having as many places as possible around for emergency supplies - so I'm all for LFS's - and I try to spread the wealth around to all of them as much as I can.

"and of course there is the perpetual display tank upgrade going on at greenbanks. slow but sure. Bill's getting there. any bets on when he finishes?"

~snicker~ Ken, I wouldn't venture to take a guess. I am sure Bill is my age or older. I want to be half as energetic as he is.

MTM, I couldn't have said it better myself.

It is off of Kirkwood Highway. I couldn't find the address online. I know I turn left from Kirkwood Hwy. traveling toward Wilmington. The left, I believe, is directly across from the left exit OUT of Prices Corner shopping centre. At that left that I make, I believe there is a State Police station. I go to the next light and make a right. William's Greenbanks is shortly after that right turn on the left in a small strip mall. (Behind the bowling alley.)

These crappy directions have been brought to you by the letters J-o-i-e and the number 00.

well Dan, Greenbanks is in the phone book, so in lieu of looking it up , you can yellow page that and mapquest directions,,, do you know where the sears store is in prices corner on Kirkwood highway just off of 41? well right across Kirkwood highway is a Pepboys,. so if you go thru pep boys parkin lot between it and the burger joint or something, and cross the road behind it you drive right into a parking lot for a few small stores, and GREENBANKS. small , but nice. Bill is always looking for new stuff to sell. always worth a look. I have fun there checking out the progress on his tank mods. I wonder what kind of lighting is going on the new rack of plexi's ?

Here's one more set of confusing directions - with a map you should be able to use all three sets and triangulate a position

-Going north on Kirkwood highway, the last intersection before Rt 141 is the Prices Corner shopping center - there is a rainbow sign that says "Prices Corners" on the corner of this intersection.

-Take a left at that intersection (the police station will be on your left). Then take a right on the next road. The small Greenbank Strip mall is on the left, just past a car wash and some apartments, about 1/2-block down the street.
