Coral banded shrimp and softie frags in Tuscaloosa

I have a big coral banded shrmp that's been relinquished to my fuge since I got my Niger trigger. He's really active and interesting. But I'm pretty sure he's decimating my pods down there. I don't want to kill him and I don't want to give him back to the LFS since all we have here is Pet Supplies Plus and I know how they treat their livestock.

You can have him for 10 bucks.

I also have tons of softies you can buy. Kenya tree, pulsing xenia, many different palys, green/red/green striped mushies, nothing mind-blowing, but all good starter stuff.

I'm not gonna quote a price on them, but you can be sure it'll be less than what you'd pay at Aquarium Imports.

Also I have tons of chaeto filled with pods and mysids. A nice handful of this will seed your fuge with the hard-to-get stuff.

If you're in or around T-town, hit me up.

do you ever get to b'ham? I live about 50 miles south of B'ham. I would be interested in the chaeto and maybe some softies that would be good for a beginner :)

Actually, not too often. The last few times I was up that way was probably solely to go to Aquarium Imports or Ed's Pet World. Sylacauga is probably farther from me than B'ham, am I right? So I'll assume you were talkin' about meeting there.

I might could be convinced to make my way up to B'ham if you would like some corals. (I'm acting like it's light-years away.) I can plan something else around it. Probably a trip to the LFS. LOL.

All the stuff I have to get rid of are perfect starter corals. They were for me, anyway. Some mushies and Kenya tree and maybe some xenia will color up your tank really nicely.

I accidentally made a new post and I don't think I can delete it. LOL. But I can edit it. So you're reading this post for no reason. Enjoy.

You are right, Tuscaloosa is 106 miles from me. B'hm is 50ish. It is not hardly even a day trip. But it sure is a hard trip to make sometimes :spin1:

I have been wanting to visit a couple of LFS in b'ham also. So far the only one I've been to is in Oxford. Since, you are more experienced with corals than I am, I think it would be ok if you picked out a few things you think would be suitable for a beginner like me. As you can see from my avatar, I have a blank canvas. If you want, you can PM me and we can talk about prices. :)

I too might be interested in some of them and live in Chelsea. Maybe i can be the middle link between you and Sandy. I'm also interested in the shrimp.

Well I can't get up there this weekend. And, to be honest, it's gonna cost me in gas, too, so it's not really worth it for just a couple pieces, since, like I said, I'm not really gonna be asking a lot for some softies or chaeto. Money is tight right now, and I need the money just to keep my tank going right now. I really wish you guys could come out here. But if not, then we can wait. I'm not getting rid of anything right now, so it'll be here.

what other corals d oyu have? i will be in tuscalossa next weekend for the blue angel show. im a navy recruiter and i will have to work the show on sunday the 9th i believe

The only things I'm willing to frag now are:

pulsing xenia
a few different kinds of palys
a few different kinds of mushies
maybe some green star polyps
Kenya tree
anthelia
maybe a small branch of yellow finger leather

I might be able to head over there Friday or Sat? Could that work? I wouldnt expect you to drive over this way unless you were already heading this way.

Friday or Saturday would be fine. Just let me know. You can PM if you want.

All the corals I have are either basically floating around or still mounted to big rocks. So I'm gonna have to start pulling some stuff up and mounting them on rubble. Or if you want, for things like mushrooms I can just give them to you unmounted and you can attach them where you want. Palys I'll obviously have to mount. Once again, let me know.

The shrimp just molted again. He does it about every 3 weeks or so like clockwork. One thing about him though is that if you have smaller shrimp like cleaners or peppermints, he probably will kill them sooner or later. Tiny, bottom-dwelling fish like a mandarin might become dinner. I added a small gold-headed sleeper goby once and he whacked it Tony Soprano-style within a night or two.

I'm not saying he's evil or that they're not reef-safe. A lot of people keep them in reefs with other shrimp and everything. Aside from that incident, he was always peaceful and active/playful at night. The key is adding him after the little guys. Mine managed to get the goby because the shrimp had been in there and had himself a nice hiding spot where he hid out all day. The goby was new and didn't have a hiding/sleeping spot staked out and, as soon as the lights went out, wham! Midnight snack.

If you add him later and let everyone else know of his presence, they can avoid him and all will work out.

The reason I didn't move him over into my 75 with everything else is because I added a Niger trigger that I don't wan't tempted by a tasty shrimp treat. He's too cool of a shrimp to let that happen to him

So I don't want to pawn him off on anyone without letting them know and making sure they're ready for him.

Hey, sorry I've been M.I.A. for a little while. I actually couldn't pay my cable bill for a few days so my internet was out. But I still have everything if anybody is still interested. Just let me know.
