so this corals base is receding very slowly as the coral grows larger. it sits pretty high on the rocks so it gets plenty of light. it sits in a pocket in the rock and the back side is encrusting very nicely but the bottom not so much. could this be from the base not receiving much light due to the corals branches blocking the lights? pls see pictures and give thoughts. thank you.

PS: dont mind the piece that is white on the left. i cut it off because there was still some of the coral left at the base so i figured id cut it and plug it to see if i can get a nice frag out of it. sorry for the bad pics. best i have for now.

It's hard to tell from your pictures, they are too blurry and far away. Initial guess without levels and all. First AEFW. Remove the colony and dip it in tank water mixed with iodine in a white bucket. Swish it around for 5 minutes then look for them. That would be my first guess, sorry to be the barer of bad news.

Second, lighting not strong enough. And last plain ole STN.

If its just STN try super gluing over all the dead stuff. I bout a maricultured colony from the store that I didn't see had begun to stn on the base. super glued over the dead part, and have had no problem since. Not sure what it does, but it seems to at least slow down if not stop STN in my experience. ^I second dipping it as well. And if the tissue continues to recede, frag off the parts that are unaffected and glue them down on plugs. That also usually can save the coral at least. That should be a last resort type of thing.

ok thank you guys.

Ok so since the coral is encrusted on the back side i cant really remove the coral. i feel like ill do more harm then good. so I put glue over the front side's base and also cut 2 little frags off as insurance just in case i lose the whole thing. i guess time will tell. if it gets worse how would you recommend removing an encrusting coral?
