Coral Beauty and Flame Angel a no no?

I have had a flame angel in my tank for about 4 weeks now and I just got a coral beauty as a gift. I don't have a quarantine tank right now and I put the coral beauty into my tank. He was shy and hid and about 20 minutes later I noticed my flame angel chasing him around. This lasted another 20 minutes or so and they both went to bed. I know that flames are semi aggressive, especially towards other angels, but will they ever live in harmony? Is this just a trial and error type thing? Should I return the coral beauty asap to prevent death?

What are your guys' experiences with this? Good or bad.

Cmon man get with the program. You made a mistake and should have read up on this. Take the coral beauty to LFS or sell it asap.

If you got both at the same time, you could add them together with no problems; an established Flame Angel will attack new comers though. Sell one.

HAHA no need to bash. It was a simple question. Some people claim success with it so I figured I'd get a few people's input. Chill.

I had them in a 45 with no problems but I ended up giving them away when I went in another direction. Would I do it again? No. Pretty sure I was lucky that time

Yes it is possible to keep them, but letting the flame get established and then adding the coral beauty is a mistake. Do you have at least 75g+? I would rearrange the rock work and see if that helps.

I've 3 FAs since Oct '07 in a 180g with about 250lb of rocks. I always wanted a CB but have resisted till I saw the first deepwater CB that was offered on LA DD last September. The male CB is a bit of pita and would go chase/nip the smaller female FA, the med female can hold her own but when the male comes in sight the CB would run for cover. The CB does get along with the 3.5" Lemonpeel hybrid (established for a year) and chases the male Venustus (added right after the CB) a bit.

With larger tank and enough rock work you can certainly add them at different times but with tighter space and one with a more aggressive personality there's not much margin for error.

I had my Flame Angel for 2-1/2 years andjust added a Half Black Angel and they are fine. I think it depends on the individual fish. I floated the bag when I got the HBA and saw no aggression. I tapped a photo of theHBA to the glass and saw no aggression. Then after QT, I put the HBA in a small tank w/lid and floated it in my DT. There was no aggression, so I released her and no problems between the two. My tank is 90 gallons w/about 120 lbs of LR and a decent amount of fish. None of my fish tend to be aggressive, so I guess I'm lucky. Maybe float the CB for a little while and see if they react to each other. Be careful if the light are on, not to overheat it. HTH

I have a flame and cb in a 180. I just put the cb into timeout for a couple of weeks to let the flame get established.

IMHO, the cb can be just as aggressive as people say the flame is.

In my experience with pygmy angels I have found that size makes a difference. Especially when you are adding them at different times. I had a 46 with a Elbi, Lemonpeel, Coral beauty, and Bicolor angel. Keep in mind I didn't have them all at one time but had at least two at a time. Hope this helps. Tony

I ended up taking him back to the LFS as I didn't want to stress the poor guy out. My tank is only 55g with about 50 lbs of LR. I figured that wasn't enough space for the two. I also got my first Clown and am hoping to see him host in my BTA. We'll see. Thanks for the info guys.
