Coral Beauty - Cloudy Eye

Hi,

I recently purchased a coral beauty, when I first got him I noticed two white splotches on his eye, both in the same location. I thought it was just the light reflecting in his eye. So I bought him.

Anyways, my wife mentioned to me that it looked even whiter, so I took a good look and true enough it seems to be whiter. Please have a look at the photo.

I think you can see the cloudiness, from the middle back. Any idea on treatment?

I agree that it is probable a minor bacterial infection. I would monitor it closely but in an good marine environment the eye should clear up on its own without treatment. I had the same problem with mine but it cleared up after about a week and now I have had it for over two year without relapse.

I realized I did not mention, the cloudiness is in both eyes. same location on each. Not sure if that makes a difference. But from that one link it seems this might be a major issue.

An affliction that has affected both eyes in the same way is not likely to be the results of an injury. Fish don't usually injur themselves 'symmetrically.'

If both eyes are cloudy, I would move the fish to a hospital tank and treat with an antibiotic.

For an eye infection, I would prefer to use Maracyn Two for Saltwater fishes. This should be readily available at your LFS or even some of the chain pet stores. Call before going there to buy it, to be sure they have it. Also readily available online.
