Coral Beauty

Ok I thought to myself, being a brand new owner of a coral beauty, that we should have a thread, not only to coral beauties, but to all Centropyge species. What are some of the things you feed, tank mates with them, size of the tank, and any other thing you do to make your Centropyge angelfish feel at home? Pictures would be nice too :)

My pair of Centropyge argi, are kept with a pair of neon dottybacks, in a 29 gallon biocube and they are fed hikari mysis, nori, and fresh clams. The tank is not your average tank in that the only decor in the tank is some PVC and bottles for the pseudos. I don't have any recent pics but maybe I could snap some, they won't be nice though because the glass is dirty because I leave it that way and the angels graze off all the algae all day long.

hi, well ive had mine for about 3 years. it will eat anything from frozen shrimp, shellfish, squid, mussel to different types of flake and pellets. the only thing i havent seen him eat is nori, although hes always grazing rocks for algea.
i have to say my cb is so problem free i often forget hes there, although i understand that all angels suffer more than most if water conditions drop, cloudy eyes etc.
i wouldnt say they were completly reef safe as mine would often pick at tube worms and the odd coral here and there.
overall a lovely, well recommended fish.
heres a couple of pics of mine.

Paul.

I have only had my Potters for a few days. She is eating Formula 2 mostly but also a little spirulina brine. She seems to be eating more each day. I have her in with a 2.5" to 3" B/W Occelaris in a 40 breeder and she's "tolerating the new addition :). I am not planning on adding any more fish to this tank as I want food competition to be at a minimum. No sign of nipping yet but its way too soon to sell.

pic of my flame angel, he is kind of getting on my nerves. his aggression is VERY high. he tries to overtake my smaller yellow tang and pb tang but they dont really put up with his guff. he is a pig, eats anything and everything i throw in the tank. he is very, very fat lol.

here is a pic of him with my desjardin(sp) salfin tang.

Just so you know you don't have a desjardini sailfin tang. It is a normal Zebrasoma veliferum, but both fish look great!

Nice potters too greech.

I stand corrected! It was qustioned about if it was or not. I guess it threw some ppl off cause of size, spotting and bright yellow stripes.

I have a c. potteri in a 40 breeder with an O. clown, bangaii cardinal, starry blenny and longnose hawkfish. He joins the crowd at feeding time and is constantly grazing the rocks. Hasnt touched any corals, fingers crossed. I feed H2O Life foods 50/50 blend, and augment with some hikari pellets for finicky eaters and formula 2. He's pretty mellow and everyone in my tank kind of minds their own business.

And a full tank to prove he's in with all kinds of corals.

I have one in a 65 gallon with a Yellow Tang, Solar Fairy Wrasse, six line wrasse, a perc clown, a bangaii cardinalfish, and a neon goby. It will occasionally give chase to the Fairy Wrasse and the Bangaii but other than that he is cool. I feed with mysis shrimp, Omega One Flakes, and Nori.

Do those of you with Coral Beauties find yours to be shy? Mine hangs out behind the rocks most of them time. Occasionally comes out front but only for a few minutes at a time. I have only had him for a couple of days. Just getting used to surroundings maybe?

I would say its just getting used to things. Try and stay away from the tank except for feedings. This will give it some time to explore on its own and not feel threatened and also allow him/her to better associate you with food.

Mine eats all foods.....he and the lamark play chase every once in a while too. He knows when it's feeding time but the rest of the time it's foraging on the rock.
