Coral Beauty

I'm surprised the anemone didn't sting it. Most small fish don't like to mess with anemones.

Two more hours of work and I get to go home and see what the CB has been up to... hopefully eating the rest of that dreadful hair algae.

As are others. The anemone pulled WAY in, Tentacles all stringy, and looking like 1 or 2 tents were hurt.

I didn't want to take any chances - I've spent ALOT of time caring after that dang thing!

Yeah that sucks when you add something and it winds up ruining / killing something you spent a lot of time caring for.

It's frustrating. My wife is already like "damn! I'm SICK of that anemone already. It's OK. It's bad. It's attacked. It's sick. Is it splitting?"

Hehehe I told her we have a Marine Soap Opera

Yea. I'm terrified of trying an anem cause A. I don't want it walking and killin all my really freakin nice frags, and B. I started the tank with one, and the first thing it did was get sucked into the bottoms of the overflows. Stupid anems. Lou, when you get home, try to hide behind a wall, and just peek around the corner to observe. I've heard from people that the angels know when you're there, and they won't pick when you're there (at least not corals). I know it's a nuts thing to hear about, but who knows? They may actually know that it infuriates you, or some other reason :p

Heh - yup. My new FoxFace Lo (from Fishes of Eden last night) he freaks out if he even THINKS someone's around.

It turns like a pasty white, spines go to attention, and he just freezes where he is like a deer in headlights!

The white coloring - it's kinda freaky.

Does that reaction mean they're ****ed? Or scared out of their mind?

Oh yea. My foxface still is scared of people (significantly less scared now that he has his buddy the sailfin) and he used to go up against the black overflows and camoflauge himself with black stripes (craziest thing i've ever seen in a foxface, just turns half black with blackish spots all over) and then when he's not stressed anymore, he'll turn normal again.

I'll try it out. Either way, it is still acclimating to the tank's surroundings, so it will be shy for at least a few days.

Lou, I do believe that I went to the extreme, and just mistook the Anemone's defensive mechanism (the retracting) for being damaged. I just didn;t want to take the chance.

I got the CB at Beverly's, and it acclimated fine, and within 48hrs was swimming in full view, even in front of us.

Reef: Mine looks different. Picture a normal FF Lo, mostly yello, with black and white, and then wrap it in wet wax paper. That's about as near as I can describe it. It's like an opaque whitish coloration, with the spines at FULL attention, and frozen in place wherever it happens to be when it freaks!

I've got lots of Xenia, mine doesn't touch it.
mine is the silver pompom kind
my xenia cant pulse cuz it has all stubby polyps:mad:

Mine used to nip at my colt but after I moved the colt to the back of the tank he seemed to have stopped however he is kind of a bully and I have seen him nip my leather coral too.

I have been trying desperately to catch the mofo but still no luck.

fish traps make him laugh

any other suggestions are welcome on removing this reef wrecker

They are slippery little boggers...maybe a barbless tiny little hook on 1 lb line and some shrimp meat..?

On that note, I'm happy to report that my coral beauty has adapted very nicely to the tank. I've been keeping him well fed, so he's been very passive and could care less about the corals. Now that he's been coming out the rock more often I'll post a pic soon. He really is a nice looking fish, tons of deep blue compared to other cb's. He has tried picking on the Peppermint shrimp here and there, but the pepper is no push over and has effectively kept him at bay. Other than that, the cb has been a good tank citizen.
