coral bleaching/clam spawning?

apearently something bad happened here today and all of my mintiporas bleached/died. I came home and the house smelled bad, tank smelled worse. looks like I lostat least 8 colonies including a 16" diam cap colony (my first sps a frag in 1998). this has never happened before. weird thing is it only seems to have affected montiporas. everything eyles seems ok even the acroporas and bta's look normal.

the tank is milkey white. I also noticed T.maxima clam is spawning. I wonder if that can cause a bleaching event?or vise-versa.

any one have any Idias as to what maw be going on? or what I can do.

I've cleaned the skimmer, added a ton of carbon and did a water change (only 5% though as I ran out of salt)

Steve,

Sounds like the spawning event caused your problems (the milky water is a pretty good indication) Carbon and water changes are the only things that will help (that I know of).

Ahhh.. sorry for your loss tho. My RBTA spawned last week killing my huge Staghorn, and an Orange Cap. Like veryone said, water change and a lot of carbon will help it. Good luck...
