coral bleaching

I have recently added a tek t5 six bulb florescent to my tank and my acropora's are bleaching. None of my other corals are though? the light is hanging about 4" above my tank is this too close?

move the coral down for awhile....(or...move the light up)....might be getting too much light

if this happens will the coral eventually get used to it and color back up or are the effects permanent???

try shortening your lighting cycle for a a few weeks or not running all the lamps.. this can also happen when you replace the lamps as new ones can be much brighter than warn ones


they may adjust to it or they may die. abrupt lighting increases can be very bad

If you can move the acros to the bottom when you seem there polyps extending bring them up a little on the rock work until you find a suitable place you like them and will be suitable to there needs. Also you can try putting like 10 sheets of wire screen over your tank and each week pulling a sheet off.

I have moved the corals down a bit and they seem to be doing better but they are still white. like I said in my initial post my light is about 4" above the tank does anyone think this is too close? my live rock is about 5" from the top of the tank and I want to put the sps's on the top as none of my corals seem to like it there? My lighting cycle is now 10hr a day is this average?

Yea your lighting cycle sounds fine. Mine is at 12 hours. But slowly bring them up the rock work until you get them to where you finally want them. and in the long term the SPS will need prunning at that level
