Coral Book.

I know very, very little on the subject of corals. Any suggestions for a good book for the coal beginner? I plan on starting a 60 gallon reef with corals that my 192 watt compact Coralife fixture will allow.

with those lights you will be limited to soft, and some LPS corals. [/B]

That's what I have been told by many people. Do these books include how to get the corals to "stick" to the rocks. I've heard that topic come up a lot when browsing the forums.

this one will Book of Coral Propagation, Volume 1: Reef Gardening for Aquarists http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=BKCP

however i would say just ask questions about that here. its not really hard once you do it a few times. theres a few different methods. myself i use a 2-part epoxy stick called holdfast. just about any LFS should have some. others will use superglue gel. some will use a combo of both. look at http://www.garf.org/ for some tips on propagation

If coral "propogation?" is not that big of a deal then maybe I should just get a book on different coral species and their care. Which book covers that?

Bornemans Aquarium Corals is as good as they come. I also have all of Anthonys books but for coral identification Eric's is best.

I'm looking for a general care book. Though, I'll probably want an identification book down the road.

Borneman's book does both.

Down the line when those corals start growing I agree with Calfo's BOCP. It's a must have. :)

Borneman is the co author of another book along with Ed Puterbaugh, called "A Practical Guide To Aquarium Corals".
It does not list as many corals nor is it as thick as the others mentioned but it is pretty good as far as Identification, Lighting Needs, Water Flow, Agressiveness and Difficulty of Care.
Its 112 pages vs 464 for Aquarium Corals but packs a lot of good information in there. I guess I'm a reef geek because I have a good sized collection of aquarium books and even donated quite a few to my local clubs library just to thin them out a little.

Great book, unfortunately mine got wet when the hot water heater let go in the basement, along with some of my other books( Fossa, Nilsen) I looked it up online, it's selling for $133 USED at Barnes and Noble!!! I paid like $35 for this back in 1999, how can it be so expensive?
