Coral con grabs

I don't think number of vendors is such an issue. I feel like reefapalooza had the same number if not more and thought it was a huge success. My 2¢. I think Florida is tapped out on conferences. This was what. Number 4 or 5? Seems like coral con had more high end vendors then reefapalooza did and I don't think many people were expecting the large price tags and lack of haggling room.

I expected the prices maybe since i was only sps shopping, but I felt like there was still place for haggling. Or at least I tried.

I definitely think they shouldn't put a limit on the number of vendors. We won't see any new guys because the bigger names would get the spot first.

Just going to wait for the next show in 2015

I saw their post on their reason for possibly limiting the amount of vendors. Last year between the 2 days there was 1600 attendees, and this year between the 2 days there was 1400 attendees. Now add on to that there were quite a few more vendors this year(I forget the exact number they mentioned), so less attendees this year and more vendors equals less profit for each of the vendors. From a buyers stand point this is a good thing as it has the potential for the prices to drop at the vendors are trying to break even on their expenditures for the event, but the vendors were worrying(I know several were just trying to break even by the end of the 2nd day this year). If the vendors don't feel they can make enough money they won't come out, so if enough feel they won't make money there could be a huge drop in number of vendors and quality of corals or the potential for no future events. The guys running CoralCon have a balancing act to try and make both parties happy, have enough vendors and selection that the attendees are happy but also not having too many vendors so that the vendors make money.

I still stand by the fact that the attendance issue is over saturation of events that I don't think this area/state are ready for yet. Not to mention coming in on the tail of reefapalooza which for a trial run ended up being a massive success. Next year will be interesting. 2 events planned for the beginning of the year, plus reefapalooza, plus coral con, plus whatever else they decided to plan

Well as u said balancing act cause i wont make the drive over for just a few vendors. I went to 3 of these this year and this one was the only one worth makeing the drive for again next yyear because they had so many vendors.

The other shows didnt have enough vendors.

The real solution to this it to find a way for more attendance not limit vendors

Maybe if the admission was free when you purchased a coral/fish from a vendor it would draw more people in.

Paying $15 at the door then paying for coral/fish probably keeps away a lot of people.

Yep it is a very delicate balancing act, if they don't have enough vendors people might not show up, but if they have too many vendors there isn't enough attendees per vendor to make it worthwhile for the vendor.

I agree, they need to find a way to boost attendance, I think boosting attendance by a couple hundred on each day would have made a huge difference on how happy the vendors were at the end of the weekend this year.
