Coral dips?

Interceptor + Fluke Tabs, 1/2 of each pill in 3-5g of water for 4-6 hrs, even more if able, moderate flow. After that 10-15min of TMPCC, however I still have yet to figure out the correct dosages, so don't do it until you know for sure how long to dip.

Also be sure to give the corals a good shake too in the dip so nothing bad can still hold on to the coral.

Fluke tabs doesn't really kill anything except Xenia for sure :D however when you dip sps it is very safe and it makes the AEFW fall off the corals, I've also observed red bugs in the sediments after dip treatment, neither are dead even after several hours and high dose but both seem to be pretty stoned.
It is the only thing I use as a preventive and as a follow up dip, IMO it is the best thing available for these critters.

I second that it definitely kills Xenia. a pump that was used in a fluke tab bath was dried and not used for about a month, then was used in another tank without rinsing it as I forgot about the fluke tabs, and it subsequently killed all of the xenia in my 24g, causing a MAJOR explosion of nutrients that I'm still fighting.

Fortunately I've never noticed redbugs or AWEF fall off the corals or look stoned after a dip, as I've never seen one, which can be either good or bad, good because I presumably don't have them, bad because I've never seen/experienced them.

NO XENIA IN MY TANK LOL.

I use a 5 gallon bucket about half full. A half a pill of large dog inter and two fluke tabs x 6hrs( that's a lot of inter but i don't care). Then bout 15 mins of iodine and into the display. So far so good never infected.

BTW red bugs are not really a pest but AEFW def are.

Manny, how much of the TMPCC/iodine do you do? I know you do one bottle squirt, but do you know the mL of that? That's the only part of the treatment equation that I'm missing.

Thanks in advance :)

So do you all throw in a small heater and pump for the 6+ hours? My house stays at 74 degrees and a small amount of water will get really cold.

Oh and do you use the same water that has the interceptor and fluke tabs for the iodine dip?

Thanks

-Matthew

Eric honestly u know by now I'm not to exact about specifics LOL
Enough pumps to make the water look like coffee-not American coffee but espresso like (cafecito cubano)

Sometimes 4 sometimes 6 pumps.

I use a MJ1200 or 900 with hydor flo head for flow, and have done both with a heater and without and seen no difference, but my house is usually 76+ degrees.

I would suggest dipping in a seperate container for the iodine, for no other reason than just to be on the safe side. Then always a dip of clean tank water to wash off the iodine and slime.

I do use the same water-no heater no pump.

Once in a while while I'm dipping them i turkey baste them. I used t run a pump but got lazy and sometimes do sometimes don't.

I'm pretty sure guys like Jeff have it down to a science - That's why his reef looks like it does.

Thanks for the input guys.I've got the interceptor and I'll get some fluke tabs and iodine tomorrow. Finally a way to kill all that xenia.........

Dude, don't take that lightly. It absolutely decimated my tank and I'm still fighting algae in the tank. You'd be amazed how much nutrients are taken up in those xenia... Ya never appreciate it until they all melt, releasing the nutrients...

Yes there would be some nutrients-I had some algae blum when i did my xeniacide(never thought it would be such a noticeable event)

I was shooting th eproverbial crap at Andy's place and as we chatted about the problem I realized then that they were the cause of my first alage bloom.

Later that month i got a foxface that dessimated my clams and so forth. Yyes it maybe problematic but it fixes one of the most hedious problems in a reef XENIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MATT,

I don't use iodine solutions at all ( they are way stronger and will kill zooxanthellae if you go pass the recommended time), I do not dip for 6 hours, max 1 hour, unless I find something then I will take the piece out and manually clean it with a soft baby toothbrush and a large lighted magnifying glass.
I do not use a pump while dipping doing so makes any traces of the bugs disappear (I assume the get liquify in the propeller) This may sound good but personally I want to know if anything jumps out of the coral.
I use a piece of styrofoam under the bucket (I find the floor to be the biggest temp conductor) I am also constantly dripping from my main tank in this period so the temperature remains pretty stable.

I went to 4 stores and nobody had fluke tabs. Do I have to order them online or can someone tell me who sells them locally.
