Coral Feeding

Hey Guys,

Recently, I've been part of a discussion around the need to actually feed corals. While I do feed my reef tank, and while I know that certain corals such as montiporas, require no more than good quality water and lighting, but others definitely require feeding (zoa's, brains, etc...). Is there any great reference source that I could use to help this discussion come to a conclusion?

you are on it ,its called reef central .
you ask and the answer will be yours within minutes in most cases.
there are too many different types to sum up easily but it all can be found .

The people here are great, and readily answer any questions new guys like us may have even though I suspect they get asked the same questions very often. On the Newbe forum there is also a post that has a ton of links to very helpful information.

Just ask politely what you are wondering and I am sure the vets will be more then happy to help you out.

From my very limited knowledge I believe most corals need some food supplement weather it is frozen, liquid, or other to complement photosynthesis. Some don't photo at all and need to be constantly fed, just have to research each coral you have to figure out their specialized needs. Good luck!

Thanks!! That's exactly the kind of stuff I was looking at... It's just odd to think how many people think corals eat nothing but light and fishpoop!

I kinda am one of those people though. Assuming your parameters are within reason, lighting should be your number one priority. Feeding is a FAR second IMO. It's very easy to see how overfeeding can become a problem in a tank that has a lot of corals in it, fish aside. Be carefull.

reef nutrition products are 1 of many available especially their oyster feast and roti feast for sps just take it easy as it is really easy to overfeed with them
