Coral Fragging workshop and raffle

On April 16th at 6pm PMASI will be holding it's annual coral fragmenting workshop. The workshop will be held in the basement of Elmer's Aquarium in Monroeville PA. Please park around back or on the side please.

The club will teach those in attendance the proper techniques and safety procedures to fragment various corals and anemones. We do not know what type of corals our generous members will be donating from their tanks. I also do not know what colonies we will purchase from our sponsoring stores. I know that with our large budget and donations that there will be allot of colonies to demonstrate with. There will be Bubble Tip Anemones, SPS, LPS, Soft Corals.

At the end of the workshop we will raffle off all of the freshly divided corals and anemones. We will ensure that there will be a good variety of corals to suite beginners and experts alike. This is always one of our most popular meetings of the year and as always everyone is welcome to attend and participate in this event members and the general public alike.

Please keep in mind that this meeting will run later than usual due to the large amount of raffle items.

How long is a typical meeting? For those who aren't members and never been to a meeting what's the sign up or process for us?

I just started my first reef tank last week, and I'm no where close to adding corals, but I would like to come and watch how it is done.

Still have some Cheato for you Fetta. I will probably bring more to the meeting for the raffle.

If I had anything I would bring it, but all have to start somewhere. The last frag meeting I was at is where I got a peice elegance that was just beautiful

As stated everyone is welcomed to attend and fully participate. All of our meeting are open to the general public. Obviously if you find value in what we are doing and like discounts at local stores and such we would like you to become a member, but that's up to you.

Meeting are usually around an hour and a half and then usually we all go out for a sandwich and socialize. This meeting will be longer because there will be allot of items to raffle off. Tickets are only a buck and anyone is welcome to buy tickets.

We are about education and doing our part to help each succeed in the hobby. Please come and check it out.

In fact, I want to personally invite everyone. We will give away a free raffle ticket to every person who comes, member or not.

Hey come to Pittsburgh and watch a frag workshop and take home a frag. Maybe go to a baseball or hockey game, etc. Pittsburgh is a big tourist attraction this time of year - such great predicable weather- by the way ...... anybody get caught in the blizzard Saturday night.

Does taking the dog out to pee count as getting caught in the blizzard? LoL

Less than a week to go. I have already started collecting donations. I won't give away the surprise, but there will be enough gorgonia for every person that wants a piece.

Well.... I went and procured some things last night. I got us a monster chalice, a huge favia, a golden hammer colony (I have it in my tank, it's very nice). There will be at least 1 rose bubble tip anemone (maybe more). Certainly acropora colonies, pocilliopra maybe some Jason fox montipora. Come and find out.

I just picked up a bunch of coral for tomorrow's raffle. I would highly suggest everyone trying to make this meeting. I picked up what I was planning to and then was giving way more as a donation to the club. A special thanks to Jeff at Aquaworld for supporting the club and all of the donations.
