coral growth ?

Have Duncan coral it has several new polyps starting. Does the trunk of the coral (sorry dont know proper name) stay the same and the polyps just keep branching from that? Wont it get top heavy or does the trunk also grow?

I purchased one head that had one branch or trunk and now that one head is 10. It sprouts new heads where the fleshy part is attached to the branch. The branch has not grown or change at all IME. When it comes to removing them from the tank it does seem top heavy IMO. I remember when I reaquascaped my tank I had picked it up out of the water and all the heads fell right over. So I quickly put it back in the tank, put a plastic container in the tank then put the Duncan in the container and lifted both out of the tank. When they are in the water they do just fine IMO once attached to something stable. Maybe someone else will chime in on their Duncan experience. Thanks.

Thanks didnt know if the rock it came on will be big enough to support growing polyps. Thanks again for your input!

Well if you're really worried about it getting top heavy, you can always glue it down.

I've had my duncans for about 3/4 of a year now, and so far, my experience is similar to yours, lots more heads, not really much branching growth. But I've have some problems with calcium and alkalinity that I'm currently trying to correct, so my experience may not be typical.
