Coral ID, please

Anyone have a name for this coral? Saw it for sale over the weekend and almost bought it, but since I didn't know what it was I passed on it. Thinking about going back to get it.

I'm evidently not very good at this imbedding pics thing, so if it's not there, let me know.

Be careful with that thing. Looks like the plug is completely covered in hair algae. I would not intolroduce that into my system.

Xmas favia, mid/low light, mid/low flow, needs some fine food fed once it gets happy in the tank. I have a small colony of it. It's not Amazballs but it's still a cool little coral IMO. I +1 on not putting that plug in the DT. Looks like hair and bubble algae central on that sucker. I got schooled on how to dip for pests during the last pizza night and now it's ezey pezey. Plus I feel very doctor like with my chemicals and rubber gloves.

A word of warning. Once it gets happy you need to watch to see how long it's sweepers are. My Xmas has only maybe a half inch at most but some favias rock six inch sweeps. My larger green and teal favia colony has about a four inch reach 360 around it. They are quite aggressive.

The algae was the thing that kept me from buying it. It's a Petco frag. My daughter wants/is getting a corn snake for her birthday, so I took her to check them out. Of course I ended up looking at their stuff. That frag is $15 and I have a $5 off coupon.

But, if the advice is to skip it, no big deal. A cheap frag isn't worth having to fight hair and bubble algae for the rest of my tank's life.

You can and should remove all corals from there plugs before dipping them and adding them to your tank.

Hmmm...maybe then a quick stop by the pet store is in order at lunch tomorrow.

I love feeling like I'm rescuing animals from Petco.

Wife brought home a cat at the beginning of the year from the shelter. I wasn't happy at the time, but he's been the best damn cat! Love that guy now!
