Getting ready to do a build. A friend has these that he doesn't like. Is it an acceptable beginner coral once in ready to add?

And this leather?

Yes both the palys and leather are good beginner choices. I would suggest keeping the palys on a separate rock so you can control how they spread (they can sometimes be somewhat invasive). As you gain experience you may decide you've "outgrown" them and if you keep them isolated it is far easier to remove then if they spread across your rockwork

That's a nice leather! If you like the palys then sure, but idk if I would bother otherwise. Frags aren't that expensive, it's not a big commitment like fish so I just spent $50 on beginner stuff that looked nice to me and didn't worry that a few didn't make it.
Either way, read up on palytoxin safety precautions before you handle them (zoa too)

By the way those are Button polyps NOT ZOAS..... Still in the softies family But buttons are usually plain in color and get much larger the Zoas.........

The palythoa is easy, but as stated, they will grow everywhere. There are much better ones out there though. Palytoxins are real and you should be aware of the risks with them! The leather is ether a Devils hand or a thick branched. May grown large and can be fragged. Ether would be fine.

The more I look the less I want the palys. I like the zoas but how do I keep them from taking over
