Coral identification?

SATAN FISH

New member
Hey guys, I'm new here. Been searching around for the past month or so, just registered a little while ago. I was wondering if you guys could help me out.

I just set up my tank about a month ago. I bought some coral that I wanted, Frog spawn, zoa's and some xenia. Then I went to pick up some clown fish and a starry blenny that a guy was selling. He also had some corals that he just wanted a donation for. Problem is, I don't know what it is that I have now.

I have this thing, but I couldn't even begin to speculate as to what it is. It looks like one piece of live rock that I have used to be covered in this type of coral but is now dead. Then I have this little piece.

I also have this coral that looks like a bubble coral, but it has stuff resembling tentacles that come out of it also. I thought I had a picture of it but I cant find it. I will have to take a pic later when the lights come on... Well, here is one with the lights off, but it is not open yet.

Then there is these guys... They came on my live rock that I first got. I have noticed that their colony is getting larger rather quickly. Are these bad? Are they just some kind of filter feeding tube worms?

Then there is my Toadstool leather. He has been in my tank now for 6 days and has yet to open up. I have read that when they are ****ed off, they will stay closed. Once they start to acclimate, they will develop a whitish slimy coat on the top of them and then a few days later it will open up. The coat is almost gone now, so in theory is should open up in a couple days now.

Thanks for any help you can give guys.

The first SPS coral appears to be a yellow Turbinaria. This small piece looks to be encrusting. If it is a Turbinaria it will form "cups" similar to Monti caps.

Yup. I'd go with Turbinara reniformis on the first one. I think you're right on the bubble coral, but not positive. The third looks like hydroids. Not good to let go unchecked. I'd cut them out of there and trash them.

I dont agree. I think the second one is some kind of lps. The tentacles are too long to be ricordea. if you look at the pic close there seems to be a sweeper tentacle or two.

as for the third pic it seems to be hydroids which are not something you want in your tank.

Turns out the Hydroids were on a rock that also had decent size aptasia growing on it. Oddly, that is the only rock that I have had problems with aptasia. Then to find out the Hydroids on it are bad too. So I just pulled the whole rock. I will let everything die on it in the air and then scrub it down and put it back in in a couple weeks.
