Does any one else have problems with these? i have a dual timer for running actininc, white and lunar lights. bought in feb 08 and it died in a few weeks. fosters and smith replaced it and now this one is dieing. they are going to replace it but i am not sure how long it will last. the timers are mounted on the wall out of harms way so i dont think they are getting wet. i have a single and a cheap walmart timer right next to it and they work fine. any suggestions on what else to run if this third timer dies. i am getting discouraged over the coralife brand.
Budman:( :(

I used a couple of these timers for years and never had a single issue with them. I just replaced them with a controller. They are about $20 each. Here's a link to amazon where they are $20 but shipping is $7.

The coralife timers have had a bad reputation and if I remember correctly have had several fires caused by them.

If they are set at different times you would need 3 timers. There are 2 heavy duty outlets on each one but they are both turned off and on at the same times.

A controller will operate many of the items in an aquarium all from one place. It has a display with temperature and PH readings and also has a power strip where each outlet can be turned off or on independently. I just set up mine with 3 different stages of lighting and moonlights too. So that is 4 of the 8 outlets filled. The other outlets control things like a calcium reactor and my heaters and skimmer.
You can turn things off and on based on time, temperature or PH so you can control a lot of things.

The one I ended up using is an AquaController Jr by Neptune but there are lots of types available. There's a good page that someone built that compares all controllers in a graph. It is www.aquariumcontrollers.com

You can't have a reef tank for too long without considering the ~$300 investment to be well worth the money. It will save you money and time. Some units also have built in web servers so you can check your tank from any internet connection in the world.
One of the coolest things about the controller is that you can tell it to turn on a fan if the temp gets too high, then turn off some lights if it gets past another temp, and finally turn off all lights if it continues to climb. You can also use it for running a chiller if you find that you need one.

If you consider the cost of buying 3 or 4 timers, a ph monitor or controller and a temperature controller you can see that the aquarium controllers are a pretty good value.

Thanks for the info. i only have a 40L so i think no controller for now. if the third coral life goes bad i have bookmarked the timers and can get them local. thanks

The digital electronic ones are JUNK!! I went through 3 of them. The mechanical one I replaced it with is working perfectly, though.

Yes these timers are junk. I sent one in twice and then they didn't want to give my money back. id try to get my money back fas as -possible those things r expensive and get some cheap ones from WalMrart they are cheaper and work better.

I also have those same digital timers with the 2 outlets. Had them for a couple of years and no problems. I hate the mechanical timers as I have only had problems with all of the ones that I've tried. Got mine at Home Depot for like $25 each and they work great.
