Due to the warfare on this rock, I decided to "reset it". The Incredible Hulk And tricolor validia were encrusting over my Cali Tort, Hawkins and sarmentosa. The rock is drilled to fit perfectly on top of a stack, with a pvc rod in the middle, otherwise I would have gladly traded the rock for just a fresh new piece of liverock.... so
I cut off all the coral that I could: Cali Tort, hawkins, sarmentosa, uncredible hulk, tricolorvalidia, purple monster, desawaii, miyagi tort and they are resting patiently on frag racks for the rock to return. The Hulk and Validia wont be getting reinstalled because they encrust too fast, and right over my other corals. I will have to find another spot for those.
I took the rock and have been soaking it in hot and cold freshwater, changing it out periodically. It looks like everything is now bleached. I am going to soak it a little longer, and then possibly dry it. After that I am going to saok it in saltwater for 24 hrs, prior to re-installing it in the tank. Hopefully the nitrates/chemicals produced will be minimal.
