Coral only tank?

Trying to think of what to do with this red sea max 250 i just got a really good deal on.

It doesnt have any filtration right now. But it does have pumps, a chiller, and a couple good powerheads.

I have a few fish in my current DT that will eventually be a problem if i want more corals, so i was thinking maybe i can make the RSM a coral only tank?

Would i still need a skimmer with coral only?
I was thinking id like to do a mixed reef with zoas a couple lps and some sps eventually.

a skimmer would always be an option but not always needed in coral only tanks. I have a 150 frag tank setup that i have a protein skimmer running on it and it does pick up some minor debris.
