Coral Placement

I've had a green scroll coral in my tank for about a week and a half now. It has kept it's colors but I am wondering how do I tell if my coral needs to move up or down in my tank. I've noticed sometimes the coral has some slime stuck to it, not sure if the slime is from the coral itself or from a nearby mushroom. Anyone know how to tell when a coral wants to be closer or farther away from the lights?
