Coral Propagation, Reef Restoration & Tourism Project

Dear All,

We are putting forward a proposal for the coral reef restoration, reef replantation and tourism in the Andamans, India, to the Government of India.

However, as because there are no projects in India, where this kind of projects have been undertaken, there are certain bottlenecks in the understanding of the whole project.

This is where I need help from all of you, by way of recommendations and vetting, so that we may bring this project to fruition.

Allow me to share the basics of the project:

Concrete tanks of 150 feet by 40 feet will be constructed where there is natural sea water available - with the right parameters. This tank will have a depth of about 3 feet and there will be a central furrow of about 5 feet. This furrow will be about 20 feet in width for the whole length. This place is where the coral fragments will be planted on live rock boulders.
Over a period of 18 months we will feed the corals and bring them to show size. It will be open to general public once we feel that the artificial reef has matured enough. Sea water will be constantly replenished to avoid any dead spots or fluctuation in water parameters.

There will be another tank of the same size for anemones and clowns and a third huge aquarium with one side viewing will be constructed for a full blown reef exhibit.

As and when the coral colonies are large enough to be fragmented, they will be fragmented and replanted back to the natural reef for grow out and create natural reefs.

This way it will serve, coral reef restoration, help education of the masses about the coral reefs and also provide a fillip to the local dwindling economy.

Request all of you reefers and experienced leaders to put in a word, so that we may sight all of your comments as a general support for this project and bring it to fruition.

When we will be able to execute, we will invite all of you to come and watch the fantastic results.

Great expectations.

Regards
Binayak Audhya
