what does the extensions signify on the coral in the first two pictures? The long hanging strands.

Those are sweeper tentacles.. sweeper tentacles can extend up to several inches from its base and sting other coral species.

By sending out those sweepers the coral is basically just trying to get a feel for it's surroundings.

Thanks everyone . As far as placement does that one I Sled about prefer to be higher or in different area ? I've only seen that since it's been on bottom sand . Been there at least a month. Any recommendations to me either one on sand up higher?

The sand bed is fine, but just make sure it's not toppling over all the time. From that second picture you posted above though, you might want to think about using some epoxy and securing it to that rock right behind it. This should be fairly easy to do and you won't have to worry about a snail or a crab knocking it over on it's side. GL.

I should fix that. I think it is on side. O used to have planted in sand better and also had on rock but current location was a quick fix and I just placed on sand as is. I don't have anything bolted down. The tank is so new , flow is still being played with, lighting, I eventually need more rock, I think that's going to be a whole other serious debate ...permanent placement of the coral I have, and the 2 frags on the rack, and rock build design etc..

Hoping to pick up an emerald crab tomorrow if in Stock. I just noticed I have another tiny cluster behind rock that has leather corals. And if it's there it may be in more places . I definitely need to halt growth. I think since small tank I should only get one ? Anyone keep two successfully. That may be a dumb question. I've heard there's no way to really predict behavior. Sometimes peaceful fish fight sometimes they dont. Probably same with these guys .

Added 3 emerald crabs today. I ended up getting 3 small ones but in hindsight wish i had gotten at least one full size. They are taking there time inspecting rock, mm by mm. Hopefully this year they find the bubble algae !

I turned the corals right side up so they aren't laying on sand. Both of them were on side (the ones on bottom).

Got the air stones and a air machine used. Bought some puregen. got a seachem #28 tiny block. Got some green algae plant and red dragons breath plant...added some color.

Hopefully soon the bubble algae will be gone and my ph will rise.
